Effective immediately I have voluntarily, completely, and utterly removed myself from the Miss Universe Organization. In good conscience I can no longer be affiliated in any way with an organization I consider to be fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent, and in many ways trashy. I refuse to be part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles as to allow and support natural born males to compete in it. This goes against every moral fiber of my being.”
—Miss Pennsylvania USA Sheena Monnin—who also claimed the pageant was rigged but coincidentally waited to make her announcement until after she lost the crown to Miss Rhode Island, Olivia Culpo—on Facebook. Culpo said she’d have no problem with a trans contestant.

What a bitch.

What’s the matter Bitch you don’t think you can beat a Trans…
Jackie
Who needs her and who cares u won’t be miss
J.
Miss Pennsylvania, do tell us again how transexuals are trashy!
Aaron
i find that they will now let a trans woman participate in mrs universe the redeeming quality about that whole pagent system.
Jono
who asked you, lady?!
randalaw
This is the USA and you have every right to feel the way you do (as long as you don’t try to force it upon anyone else). You have done the right thing in removing yourself from this organization which you feel is so vile and repugnant. In all honesty, though, your protest might have carried a bit more weight had you withdrawn several weeks ago when the issue came up and the transgendered contestant was allowed to participate. Day late and a dollar short, Hon.
Zweegas
Someone obviously did internet searches and copied and pasted some shit, because bitch does not know what big words like “voluntarily,” “affiliated,” and “fraudulent” mean.
DouggSeven
Very well, I’ll paraphrase.
“I am publically attaching myself to a contraversial topic in order to attempt some sort of desperate, last ditch grasp at fame since not winning the pageant guarantees that any career I may have had is over. I know the media is just as dumb as me and will pay top dollar to print my words. I would also like a shot at being a correspondent on Fox News. I will be doing some panel discussions on the topic on various news shows and will be adding those to my resume. Praise God.”
Cam
She lost and she was pissed. But this way, rather than being honest and saying that she is too immature and pissy to stay in after she lost. She gets to pretend it’s for another reason.
They let the Trans Contestant in AGES ago. Funny how she didn’t quit back then…she waited until she LOST to do it.
What a hypocritical bigot.
Clockwork
@randalaw:
Good comment
Frank
Sour grapes…that´s all…besides she can´t remove herself from the Miss Universe because she´s not part of it, she lost to the woman from RI
LMFAO
NateOcean
So the pageant was fine enough to participate in, but only got “trashy” when she lost.
OK. I get it.
Maxx E Padd
Let’s see you wait until after you lost to resign. And the publicity doesn’t hurt either. She is getting what she wants her 15 minutes of fame. She knew about the organization stand when it was an issue last month with Miss Canada and yet she didn’t resign till after the pageant.
So is she giving up her prizes she won with her State crown?
She has the right to believe whatever way she wants but to not resign when she knew about the organization stand last month speaks volumes. Please don’t tell me she thought about it but was convinced not to. Talk about morals. If she had the morals she talks about she would have resigned last month. No———-let’s wait until I find out if I will win.
You didn’t even make it into the top 16.
So it isn’t against your morals to walk around in a small bikini in front of millions. Hummmmmmmmmmmm—-kettle/black.
MikeyM
I hope this quote followers her around forever.
Polyboy
She has the moral fiber of the silicone in her chest.
Spike
So she waited until after the pageant to make this announcement. Did she really think that a chick pageant that is owned by that clown Donald Trump that is all about the contestants showing boobs and ass in swim wear was not fixed? Damn, she’s stupider then the average beauty contestant. Then again, I’m guessing, the thought of loosing a beauty queen title to a former dude, would kinda suck.
Bryan
Dig deep into her life and she’s probably not as morally upright as her indignation would make her seem.
DanChi
What a great role model for young girls everywhere. You don’t have to agree with our views. That’s fine. I have no problem with that.
but this whole “I don’t agree with this immoral..” etc. etc.. etc.. and then just quit. Walking out thing? great message.
If you don’t get your way, just quit. (and make a scene on the way out”
Awesome!
MPNM
I’m going to have to call a bluff. Nowhere other than here so far has accused her of trams phobic comments. The controversy of her leaving appears to be what she said about the top finalists being prechosen before they allowed voting this a rigging of GE system. Nowhere in any official statements that have been put out does it list her bashing transgender individuals. Link to the story below.

these are two quotes merged together… granted they are her words and the context is pretty much the same but this is a fabrication queerty
Nikkidane
For once I agree with Donald Trump. Miss Pennsyvania is just pissed that she didn’t get selected and is now looking for any excuse to discredit the pageant. Bigotry is not pretty no matter how physically attractive someone may be. She is just butt ugly to me.
ChicagoDyke
A man or someone who is genetically and biologically male should not be entering a contest for women who are born women.
Rosada Delano
Who needs her swanky ass in the competition any way? Take your gown and swimsuit home and be gone, bitch before some tranny occupied house falls on your head.
Rosada Delano
Sorry if I violated any terms or stepped on anyone’s toes. I was just reading other folk’s comments and I thought mine were pretty much in line with what others were posting.
Marla
Is it must be or is there something a little “satanic” going on with her eyebrows? and she is still chasing tiaras and sashes at 27 years old?!! Does the phrase “get a life” mean anything???
Still, I’d buy her a couple of ‘appletini’s’ if I saw her alone at the club … get her nice and relaxed and cure her of the homophobia.
Shannon1981
All prizes, endorsements, etc, Missy. Hand ’em over now. You distance yourself based uponn your own twisted, transphobic “morality,” you give up the perks, too.
Indi
my trashy foot in her trashy ass
Bailey
Honey, that trans contestant is much more of a lady than you’ll ever be.
MKisNE
Didn’t we already do this a few years ago? Clearly she’s willing to sell out every fiber of her being for a chance to win because she didn’t do this last week.
MKisNE
@ChicagoDyke: It doesn’t affect her because that contest already happened and the trans girl lost.

Monnin, who has a master’s degree in psychology, adds in a separate Facebook post:
“I have decided to resign my position as Miss Pennsylvania USA 2012. Effective immediately I have voluntarily, completely, and utterly removed myself from the Miss Universe Organization. In good conscience I can no longer be affiliated in any way with an organization I consider to be fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent, and in many ways trashy. I do not support this system in any way. In my heart I believe in honesty, fair play, a fair opportunity, and high moral integrity, none of which in my opinion are part of this pageant system any longer.”
But there seems to be some question about exactly why she is resigning.
In a statement, the Miss Universe Organization dismissed Monnin’s allegations as “false” and said Monnin told pageant officials she was resigning because she did not agree with the organization’s recent decision to admit transgender contestants.
Pageant officials released an e-mail message they said they received from Monnin on Monday that read, “I refuse to be part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles as to allow and support natural born males to compete in it. This goes against ever (sic) moral fiber of my being.”
Carl 1
@ChicagoDyke: And that was the attitude of the church (and still is in many denominations) towards female clergy. Doesn’t stop it being sexist – just as excluding women who were born male is sexist. Further, I don’t think the documentation of the pageants ever stated “natural born” , just “women”.
Gender dysphoria is a real, genuine condition and I do not see any justification why those who have successfully transitioned should be denied entry to events reserved for women – otherwise, where do we stop? Deny them access to any public restroom, since they are no longer male but not born female?
Belize
@ChicagoDyke: “A man or someone who is genetically and biologically male should not be entering a contest for women who are born women.”
And idiots shouldn’t be allowed to use the internet to prevent them from spreading their idiocy. I guess we can’t all have what we want.
Belize
@Carl 1: “Gender dysphoria is a real, genuine condition and I do not see any justification why those who have successfully transitioned should be denied entry to events reserved for women.”
I can. Because such events are among the very few in the world where simple-minded women like @ChicagoDyke can feel special. They don’t want to be out shined even though it is so easy to do so given that their only advantage in this case is the fact that they were born with a vagina.
Kate
Maria-Way to go advocating date rape and sex with someone who’s drunk.
Lance
Let’s find out if this woman actually said this or if she actually doesn’t like trans people before we completely attack her and the nutty trans-activsts flip out and want to lynch her.
Marisol
I can see why she’s mad. A she male or trany is not a woman and never will be.
Jackie
Good Job queerty and other LGBT blogs, mashing up quotes and making people who you don’t like say things that they did not apparently say.
It’s groupthink, group-bullying, and cyber-bullying or cyber-stalking with angry Huff Poo rejects!
Belize
JAYKAY: “Good for her. Traditions and labels should be maintained. When I was competing for the Miss Westboro Baptist Church beauty pageant, I quit when officials desecrated the bull riding portion by replacing the real bull with a mechanical one.”
JASON: “She’s right. Gender dysphoria isn’t real because its not something that I experienced personally. I learned that from my dad right before he told me that my love for male organs is a deception of the devil.”
There you go boys. No need to comment on this article anymore. You can go back to your daily hick town queen routines of self-flogging, self-hating and beard-loving without interruptions. 🙂 Love yah.
Belize
@Jackie: “It’s groupthink, group-bullying, and cyber-bullying or cyber-stalking with angry Huff Poo rejects!”
You can do that too–if you can find anyone who would actually be so self-effacing as to want to group with you. Try grouping with One Million Moms. I’m sure they need more people given that they’re about 999,000 short of their desired number. 🙂
Jerome Williams
Belize-You need to expand your vocabulary and perhaps stop acting like your shoe size. Mabye then you can join the adults and actually? communicate with others. Sounds exciting right….
InscrutableTed
See ya, Former-Miss PA. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
jason
While I agree with Miss PA’s position on transgender contestants – they simply don’t belong there – has Miss PA ever considered the fact that these contestants demean women? They are silly, stupid competitions to see who has the clearer skin and lusher hair.
The females on that show look like Clairol-sponsored clones.
DLD86
Well, you’re not that pretty anyway…. loser. Isn’t this pagent about respect, diversity, change and making the world a better place to live? Well you tried to walk the walk… but you sure couldn’t talk the talk…. LOSER.
Rob S.
She didn’t just remove herself, she “utterly” removed herself. That said, it is a totally fabricated quote. Shame on Queerty for repeating the story with no verification.
D
Why does “utterly” make it fabricated. She’s obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed. She’s kinda pretty and used that to get this far. Unfortunately it catches up to you when you’re “stupid”. Wake up! It’s 2012! And she’ll be surprised that we don’t have slaves anymore and guess what! The Jews are equal! Hopefully soon women can make the same money that men do! I know, sounds like fiction to the closed minded but it’s going to happen. Either hop on the bus or crawl back in the box and turn off your Internet!
David
Oh well. It’s not as though she’s actually being homophobic or biphobic towards bisexuals or gay/lesbian people which would be really bad, however just because she has the opinion that Transgendered women should not be in women’s beauty contests this is her opinion and there’s nothing wrong with it.
Vince
Why would anyone Trans even want to be in a beauty contest for women?
Chicks with dicks, she males, and tran nies do not belong in beauty contests for women.
It’s like a man arguing that he belongs in a beauty contest for women just because he wants to be in it and somehow has a right to be in a beauty contest.
FelixWood
A trans woman is a woman, a trans man is a man. They should be afforded the same rights and privileges as natural born men and women.
Pretty simple.
mds
@Marco: Combatting homophobia with sexist language will get us nowhere.
Zach
Felix-Actually no, Transmen are WOMEN biologically, genetically, and physically. Transwomen are MEN both biologically/genetically, and physically.
Despite the way some Trans people want to pretend that after transitioning that they’re biologically and genetically the opposite gender this does not happen.
I have even met Transpeople who do not want to transition at all since they feel as though transitioning would just make them a cisgender person merely imitating the opposite gender and transitioning would not really actually make them the opposite gender at all.
TJ
@ No. 9 DouggSeven
EXACTLY! And I hate to say it, but this was a smart media move for her. She’ll get airtime and speaking engagements if she plays the victim of the liberal media role. What complicates matters for her is that Donald Trump is going to go after her and that is going to make a conservative victim argument hard since he is the nation’s leading right-wing lunatic attack dog.
sheena
@Polyboy: love that comment lol
Alexa
Watching TV last night I thought I heard that she’s being sued for defamation or slander or something by the Miss Universe organization now. Anyone know if this is true?
Ian
LOL She removes herself because the pageant is now “trashy”? LOL Like pageants are high-morals and not trashy to begin with. What a joke.
Al
Sheena Monin was on The Today Show this morning. She verified her problems with transgender contestants as being one of the reasons for resigning. So…that’s that.
I’d also like to say that I am a bit heartened by the majority of responses here defending the transgender contestant. Or rather her right to compete. I was shocked by the multitude of anti trans comments on the article about CeCe McDonald. Not about her in particular, but the rabid hatred of transgenders in general. I thought I had stumbled on a fundamentalist Christian blog, not one dedicated to LGBT issues and diversity. I would have thought that if anyone understood best the differences between brain and body, and how brain effects sexuality and gender, it would be people attracted to a site like this. At least the people who are not just conservative trolls.
Carl 1
@Al: Unfortunately Al, it has been my experience that for a community seeking equal standing in society and decrying prejudice, the LGBT community can be very intolerant itself. Which is a real shame IMO.
