Missing Governor Discovered Cruising in the Forest

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who’s been missing for days without contact with his staff nor his wife (and mother of four sons), has been located: He’s out hiking on the Appalachian Trail.

I live in SC & don’t believe for one second that no one knew where he was. This is so he’ll get more publicity, because the man is itching to be President. A foul, odious Republican…

It’s dirty partisan politics, but you’ve gotta hand it to the scoundrel who ginned up the “governor is missing! maybe he’s nuts!” meme out of nothing.

I find it hard to believe that he was doing this to garner attention for a presidential run. Who would want to vote for a man who just disappears without letting his wife, head of security, or second in command know? Even if it was all an act, it doesn’t seem very helpful for a political career.

Of course, it is nice to see that the state did just fine without him for a few days before anyone realized he was missing. What does that say about his role in governing here? Perhaps in the next election people will see that he really is ineffective and we can get along just fine without him as governor or president.

To concur with JT, if this man “disappeared” legitimately, he is likely a blundering idiot. If he “disappeared” in the Forest without notifying his staff family in order to garner attention for a Presidential campaign, he is either mentally disturbed or of pitifully low intelligence. For a political leader to abandon his position for days seems, in my opinion, a far greater transgression than getting a beej in your office.

do you really have to use the word “cruising” in the headline — it implies something about the governor’s hike that is (probably) not true.

@TQE / Adam: Is this a gay site? Then you answered your own question.

“Sanford’s wife, Jenny, also told The Associated Press Monday that she was unconcerned and that the second-term governor is “writing something and wanted some space to get away from the kids…”

He disappears and his wife doesn’t care? That’s ridiculous unless “hiking the Appalachian trail” is understood by all to mean I’m checking out for a few days. No questions, OK.

I hope he wrote some good stuff out there.

That would have to be in Buenos Aires, Argentina!

I just read the Argentina thing.

Common mistake I suppose – Appalachian Trail/Argentina

Good luck with your bid to be Pres., Governor. You’re perfect.
