Missouri State Senator Forced to Flee to Iowa to Marry Her Partner

Best Name Ever alert: “Missouri Sen. Jolie Justus said Sunday that she boarded a bus Friday for Iowa, where same-sex marriage is legal, to wed her partner of nearly two years. Justus, a Kansas City Democrat, said she married Shonda Garrison of mid-Missouri in a ceremony in Iowa City. The two were among 17 Missouri couples who took advantage of the recent Iowa Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in the state. Justus, 38, said Friday was one of the best days of her life, but it also was bittersweet because the marriage carries no legal weight in Missouri.” [Kansas City Star]

Jolie is awesome. She was my state Senator until I moved last week. She’s super accessible, is on Facebook and Blogs at http://joliejustus.blogspot.com/

@Jackie: Not only do I agree I am wondering why no picture if this woman is included with the article. Even in the link there is no picture. Tacky.

@Gurlene: There are some photos from the bus trip here: http://gazetteonline.com/apps/...../1001/NEWS and number six is Jolie and Shonda (though the caption misidentifies the two).
