Mixing Jewish + Gay Stereotypes Is a Recipe for Insta-Camp

You thought Queer Eye Jai Rodriguez was just going to disappear into the ether of irrelevance? And hanging around West Hollywood gay bars? You would be wrong. He's still a working actor, you see.

Oy Vey! My Son Is Gay! will, inevitably, become an instant camp classic. On the level of The Broken Hearts Club? Probably not. But the film — which premiered this month at the Montreal World Film Festival — looks like a gay Big Fat Greek Wedding, and we mean that in the nicest of ways. But guaranteeing this film will hit camp lore? Bruce Vilanch and Carmen Electra co-star.

Plus there's the whole gay adoption storyline to make things prescient, for those who need a news peg.

Is it terrible that I actually think Jai is super cute? He's so overly-manicured I kind of want to kill myself, but I also find it attractive.

Jai also put out a horrible song, which I saw the video for on Logo. He is adorable-looking though. You just need to put something in his mouth to shut him up.

As a gay-Jew, this will probably be very creepily similar to my own family. And I can't wait.

I don't really see what's overly camp about this movie, beyond the stereotypical Jewish mother (which I suppose can be all the camp a movie needs to get the label), but it looks like a cute movie, preaching to the converted.

But yeah, the Gay Big Fat Wedding (that's a porno title waiting to be made btw) seems like an applicable alternative title. Go figure they would get the same women who played the mother in that one to be the mother in this role, just to make it a little more obvious.

I'll still watching.

I rolled my eyes so many times during this clip that if my Jewish mother were here she'd probably warn me that my face might freeze like that.

Skip. Moving on….

I saw Jai Rodriguez at an AIDS Project-LA benefit featuring Burt Bacharach songs. He sang a more recent song "Go Ask Shakespeare" and I thought it was a great choice and he sang it beautifully.SInce I almost never watch TV, I didn't know who he was.I was impressed.

This actually looking pretty cute, although you can make any movie look good in a trailer. But I'll download it off some random torrent site and watch it, if at very least to see Jai, he IS pretty cute.

i'm not surprised it reminds you of My Big Fat Greek Wedding… the mom's the same actress. Looks like overbearing ethnic stereotype is right in her wheelhouse. looks cute, though.

@terrwill: You said "@Cam: Whats wrong with Bruce Vilanch???? He is very funny, accepted by everyone in Hollywood sought after as one of the most creative succesful writers for award shows. He is and always has been 100% out and proud. Yes Cam that WAS necessary"

One of the most creative writers for awards shows? You mean those shows that everybody complains aren't funny and go on too long? I saw him on an interview and he was STILL bragging that he wrote the line "I am the African Queen" for Whoopie Goldberg at the Oscars. Lets ignore the fact that Whoopie was universally panned as an unfunny host. That joke itself was a yawner and if he hasn't written anything good since then….

His casting was gimmiky, the audience was supposed to go "HEY!" when he comes out on screen. I just think it was a boring move.
