This video for
Billy Squier’s 1984 hit “Rock Me Tonite” may be the most unintentionally gay thing we’ve ever seen. There’s a torn t-shirt, loads of crotch shots, arm flailing and, yes, writhing, which looks as if it may have been inspired by Madonna.
Gayer than Richard Simmons!!!!!!
One Website asked for the most unintentionally hilarious video from the 80’s I sent in that video. I still can’t believe I didn’t win. A ripped pink tank-top, red satin sheets, tight jeans, that dancing. He looks like a twink throwing a fit because his boyfriend accidentally washed he A&F tank top in hot water.
If you think that’s gay, you oughta see the video for Squier’s “Stroke Me,” in which he gyrates repeatedly wearing the tightest pair of jeans ever seen, barely concealing what looks to be a third leg. I have fond memories of it from my adolesence.
Just found it on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLHc-yIAPbg
It’s actually called “The Stroke.”
This shouldn’t surprise you once you saw that it was directed by Kenny Ortega. If you don’t know who he is, google him and see his works (beware they include Salsa: The Motion Picture)
It’s even funnier if you watch it without sound…
These videos are largely credited with destroying Squiers’s hard rockin’ career. They were simply too gay. I must say, the suggestive lyrics and that prominent bulge inspired me back in the day…
is no one here aware that it was widely rumored at the time (in those years) that he was the boyfriend of Freddie Mercury? - unintentional may not be the word…
this has nothing to do with his music, but most people don’t know that Squier is gay. His best friend was the late great Freddie Mercury who did back up vocals for several of Squier’s songs (including Emotions In Motion). He, in turn, lent his vocals for backup on part of the ‘Hot Space’ album from Queen. Rumour (and this is just rumour) is that he also played guitar on the Queen/Bowie classic ‘Under Pressure’. ;-)
