Curtis Mayfield's rendition of "People Get Ready" becomes especially timely in these last weeks of the presidential election. Taylor Dane sings backup in this performance, which is totally tops.

Back in 1972, this 18-year-old white boy was snapping up all the Curtis he could, and it was a good time to do it: Get Down, Beautiful Brother of Mine, Superfly, Move On Up and Freddie's Dead, just to name some. He had a silky smooth delivery that went hand-in-hand with lyrics that bespoke a politcally-tinged, iron-willed resolve. God bless him and rest in peace; if only he had lived to see the change that is indeed about to come.
