From 1973 through 1975, Gladys and her group were finally having the kind of success they deserved, but never quite reached at Motown in days when every other female singer always stood in La Ross's shadow. They earned every accolade, award and all the commercial success that came with their shift to Buddah Records. A string a memorable hits, that all performed well on both the R&B AND Pop charts began and recognition came at the Grammys too. It's a shame to this day that the same kind of upward turn of luck didn't also happen, post-Motown, for Martha Reeves.
I saw Gladys live in the fall of 1973 at the now-defunct Cherry Hill NJ Latin Casino, as "Train" was on the up-climb on the charts, stayed afterwards to get a glimpse of them leaving the club, and luckily, got a chance to kiss Gladys's hand. The woman is stunning and her pictures barely do her half-justice.
