Morning Aural: Leela James

Leela James may only have 24-year on her, but her soul’s immortal. Like her inspirations Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin, James lets it all out. Here’s “Music” from her 2005 Warner Brothers debut, A Change Is Gonna Come.

After the jump: James’ rendition of No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak”.

When Blake did “Don’t Speak” on the Gwen Stefani week of American Idol, the judges all congratulated him on the interesting new arrangement. But I knew at the time it was just Leela James’ version.
