Moving On Up?

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who famously – and illegally – began issuing same-sex marriage licenses back in 2004, has launched an exploratory bid for California’s gubernatorial seat. “His move placed the 40-year-old, two-term mayor out in front of a large Democratic field eyeing the race to succeed Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is barred by term limits from running again in 2010. Newsom said he expected to decide by year’s end whether to proceed with a full-fledged candidacy.” [LA Times]

Doesn’t the recent decision in California actually mean that what he did in issuing the licenses was actually legal all along?

I’d vote for him.

Which means nothing, as I don’t live in Cali. Still, it’s the thought that counts.

But, not really.

He’s 40!? Wow, he’s looking awesome for 40. I think he’d made a fantastic governor, so I hope he goes for it!

Alan — not really. In the absence of a clarification by the Court, his action was still illegal and all those marriages didn’t count. His “illegal” act, however, was key to igniting the series of events that led to eventual legality (kinda like black civil rights activists who sat at whites-only lunch counters during segregation–what they did was illegal, but the law was unjust and got changed later).

All that aside, I’d totally support him for governor. Sadly, his first term would be squandered trying to undo all the fiscal damage that Arnold has done.

I love it when he campaigns in the Castro he changes his look a bit to pander to the gays, more tosseled hair and very tight jeans. Nice round booty and yes he’s packin’ (he doesn’t have that nose for nothing!)

I’d move to California if I thought my single vote would insure his
winning. I love it that this man comes out and says exactly what
other politicians are scared fucking death to say. Governor and off to the White House! It also does not hurt that he is the sexiest politician since JFK.

I can see why fags would flock to this egotistical, selfish prick since he hides in the closet, abuses drugs and alcohol, and fucked his best friend and campaign manager’s wife. You all belong together.

If he was so great and had any balls, he would stop hiding and come out of the closet.

I was so uncertain about Gavin when he first ran for mayor here.. but DAMN has he impressed. I really can’t think of a mayor in my almost 40 years that has made such recognizable changes.

He’s also articulate, compassionate, knows he’s enough of an intellectual to override stupid movements, he’s rather funny and has that tiny bit of sleaze that a good politician almost always has.

I love him. I’ve never said that about a politician -ever. He rocks.

Of course you have thats why your so well versed in the sins of others, because if you did not have them to focus on you would have to look at your own. And I bet you have a list of them a mile long. You only see in other what you see in yourself, asshole.
