Move over, Cazwell: Skinny white boys aren’t the only homos who can make a name for themselves in the world of hip-hop. We’d like to introduce y’all to three contenders to the throne: newcomers Teddy Bee and the Big Dipper (above), and veteran duo God-Des and She.
FIRST: Big Dipper shares his ode to spring showers, “Drip Drop”
NEXT: Don’t even try to front: God-Des and She call out the players in “You Know My Name”
Following up their Logo hit “Love You Better” with headlining gigs at Pride festivals around the world, dyke duo God-Des and She has now released “You Know My Name,” the first single off their upcoming fourth studio album. “You know when you meet someone over and over, and sometimes they say ‘Hi,’ but sometimes they don’t, depending on who they’re in front of? Well this track is for those people,” says God-Des. “[It’s] for when all you want to say to that person is ‘You know my name’.” We totally feel that.
NEXT: Teddy Bee gets her game on with “Janga”
Last is Teddy Bee, the pimp mama of Tampa’s lesbian hip-hop scene. Here’s her track, “Janga,” an anthem to getting laid. (always a crowd-pleasing topic).
For the informed, janga is slang for “a groupie (male or female) that gets around.” With lyrics like “I got these girls goin’ wild/like they’re birthin’ my child” and lots of parking-lot twerking and booty-bumping in the video, Teddy can clearly hold her own against Fiddy and Lil Jon.
And kudos to her for stomping the stereotype that lesbians move in together before hooking up.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
