You don’t have to be a clinical psychologist to peer past the nonsense of TLC’s sideshow spectacle My Husband’s Not Gay, wherein men who are admittedly attracted to men try their darnedest to convince themselves and their wives (and now America) that they’re perfectly content suppressing their true identities.
But for argument’s sake, let’s say there was a shred of believability to their pious reformation. All it takes is a little role reversal to squash any measly remnant of legitimacy.
What if it were same-sex couples where one of the partners is actually straight? That’s the premise of this hilarious video from George Takei. The sad part is that the participants in TLC’s reality show don’t realize they come off as equally ludicrous.

There are plenty of gay men who get married in the hope of somehow getting “cured”, passing, or just doing what family and society expects of them. It’s been going on since the flood. It isn’t like “My husbands Not gay” scenarios doesn’t exist in real life. Why anyone would choose to be upset over the TLC series or want to ban an exploration of this phenomenon is puzzling. Especially since the show I watched made it abundantly clear that the gay Mormon men are still gay Mormon men even after marrying a woman.

Hilarious concept… makes a good point.
If only all the people who accuse homos of “choosing” a “gay lifestyle” would ask themselves if they (assuming they’re hetero) could choose to be gay themselves, then maybe they’d finally STFU.

@Kieran: Since the flood of religious nonsense? Yeah, I agree

I love George Takei, I saw him at the Columbus Gay Pride Parade last year. I wish I could have met him 🙁

Well, you’d be surprised as to the number of gay-identifying men who have had sex with women and still intend to have sex with women. I’ve met quite a few. I find that they identify as gay in a gay bar setting but not elsewhere. It’s an identity of convenience designed to make potential partners feel at ease in a social setting.
The guys in My Husband’s Not Gay are legitimate examples of men who do not act on their same-sex desires, instead opting to act on their opposite-sex desires no matter how small a component the latter is in their make-up. It’s an option they pursue for the benefit of establishing a stable, nuclear family with a loving woman by their sides.

I just don’t see how this scenario doesn’t end with suicide or the making of a very sad resentful individual.

@Xzamilio:
Yes…all of the anti gay mess started with the rise of Christianity. I took a Gay Studies class when I was pursuing my Master’s degree and it was interesting to learn gay history and it was the rise of Christianity that suddenly it was taboo to engage in homosexual activity when it had pretty much been an accepted thing in a lot of cultures previously. Damn religious nonsense.

You’d think filmmakers wanting to make a point about homophobia what do a better job than to depict ALL the “gay” men in this parody as mincing queens – the classic go-to stereotype for anyone wanting to ridicule and demean homosexuals. Okay, sure, there are effeminate gay gays, and they don’t deserve to be airbrushed out of the picture, but this is hardly respectful of them either. In the name of diversity, if nothing else, you’d think the gay guys here could be a little more representative of the real world. Frankly, this parody represents a total failure of imagination, and I actually find it more offensive than the show it’s trying to parody, which pretty much functions as a parody of itself anyway.

Sorry, Osjosh, I didn’t notice that.
I really like George Takei’s sarcasm, though I think this could have been done better. Anyone?
Personally, I have had sex with women and enjoyed it. The Gay straight chasm is a myth.

Anyone been watching this the last season of 3 ½ Men? I mean . . . . if those two characters aren’t “gay”, then neither am I. LOL Even if one is to believe the characters are straight (not talking about the actors themselves — another conversation altogether), they certainly do make the case for “same sex marriage”. And cause all the arguements against to sort of peter out in the wind.
