Just in case you were wondering, the first female Speaker of the House isn’t above snacking on some Colonel’s Crispy Strips now and then.
For what it’s worth, KFC isn’t rated by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, so it’s hard to tell exactly how pro-gay the chain is (or isn’t.)
But bizarrely, Bloomberg News reports that KFC’s buckets are partially made of wood harvested from Indonesian rain forests, which devastates the habitat of the endangered Sumatran tiger. Sigh.
UPDATE: Turns out that Yum! Brands is indeed rated by the HRC. They have a 45, which is not so great even before you factor in the whole tiger thing.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

Yeah, and she probably has a lot of constituents in SF who are vegetarians and/or PETA members who’ll give her a hard time about KFC’s suppliers and well-documented animal cruelty.
Jeez, I never even heard of this Chik-Fil-A place until two months ago, but that must be because I live in New England and I’ve never even seen one. Damn, just what is so fuckin’ magical about those chicken sandwiches?
This controversy may turn me into a vegetarian before it’s over – I’m sick of hearing about it already and it’s not like most gay people really give a rat’s ass about marriage anyway. I’ve never heard of any gay person being “against” it, really, but I think most of us worry more about job discrimination (for one thing). Marriage is a cause that was foisted on us by the cocktail party “activists” who are sure it’s the greatest right since the Magna Carta or something, but who don’t spend 1% as much time on ENDA. But I guess they can’t identify with ENDA because they’ve never had a real job.

Roxorz
@almost vegetarian!: As someone with a chik fil a 5 mins from my house I can tell you it’s not THAT great. Their waffle fries like mcdonalds fries are pretty addictive but the chicken is nothing special. In the south we have plenty of chicken biscuit/sandwich places ( zaxbys, bojangles, popeyes, etc) which I would gladly pick over chik fil a.
Jase
@Roxorz: I agree. It’s good, not great. And for the record, I’m all about popeyes lol
Hyhybt
Cruelty to animals is better than cruelty to people, even when the level is not the same.
Yum! Brands *is* in there, by the way, though I can’t figure out how to read that chart.
tookietookie
KFC? *sigh* No, no, no.
tookietookie
@Hyhybt: Unless you’re into Christian dominion bullsh@#, no it is not.
I take this as a well-meaning but misguided attempt of Ms. Pelosi’s, but don’t apologize for it as anything but. You don’t have to be a member of PETA to watch the videos of baby chicks getting their beaks cut off or thrown alive into grinders or employees throwing live adult chickens against walls or stomping on their heads and know that such acts cheapen the so called quote unquote humanity of those who are doing it or condone it. Ha, ha, it’s fashionable to make fun of PETA as extremists, but doesn’t matter your sexuality you can stand up for what’s right. It’s not a zero-sum, so don’t get all threatened and baited into that nonsense paradigm.
Gertrude
The chicken obsession (delusion) continues.
You folks should start eating nuts off the ground and wiping your asses with leaves.
Hyhybt
@tookietookie: I never even HINTED that it’s zero sum.
Would you mind, please, explaining why you even brought up dominionism? It has nothing I can see even remotely connected to anything I said, or to anything you said other than your tossing the words into your post.
Ish
Let’s be honest, as far as chicken places go KFC is the worst.
Triple S
@Hyhybt: I work at KFC, and while I loathe eating anything there due to the horribly unhealthy nature of most of the products (I will admit I do eat a slight amount here and there), it’s actually not that bad.
It’s certainly not fantastic quality of course, but it isn’t like forcing rotten food down your throat. It’s more the time taken to get things ready.
Triple S
Sorry, that was directed more to @Ish.
Hyhybt
@Triple S: Good; I was more than a little confused.
KFC, in my experience, isn’t as *consistent* as CFA at being great every time at every location, but when they’re good they’re maybe even better. I don’t understand, though, since they have those pieces of chicken that are right for sandwich-making, and they have buns for other types of sandwiches, they don’t *sell* things like the original recipe sandwich anymore. Or even the triple crunch.

I would prefer the politicians to stay out of this. For one thing, the various veiled and not-so-veiled threats that city officials have made against Chick-Fil-A are clearly unconstitutional. For another thing, when public officials pile on, it’s just making a martyr out of the company. It would be better for everyone if the activism were left to those who actually care, not those pandering for votes.
Hyhybt
@Jim H.: The mayor thing is a bit different, but in Pelosi’s case, she’s just voicing an opinion, same as anyone else only with a bigger audience, and one a portion of which can, if it so chooses, use as part of its determination whether she keeps her job or not.
almost vegetarian!
@Jim H.: It’s disturbing when “progressives” like Mayor Menino (Boston) and Mayor Emanuel (Chicago) use unconstitutional, thug-like threats that (1) they can’t possibly back up anyway (well, Menino can’t – maybe in Chicago they can, ha ha), and (2) would look properly wrong and ridiculous to us if the other side were trying to do it to us.
If anyone wants to picket Chik-Fil-A, or boycott them, that’s great. But if they’re too lazy to do that and would rather try to misuse the mechanisms of government, that’s illegal and costs a lot of taxpayer money in lawsuits.
Also, as others have pointed out on Queerty – Chik-Fil-A is all franchises, NONE of the stores are company-owned.
As for Boston, same-sex marriage has been the law in Massachusetts for many years. A fast food place is not going to change that. Have some confidence. Freaking out about this store makes us look really wimpy.
Plus, this is just my personal guess, but I bet most gay people don’t give a rat’s ass about marriage anyway. (I wish they would take a poll on that!) That was an issue was foisted on us by the cocktail party “activists” who don’t spend 1% as much time worrying about employment discrimination, for instance. But I guess they can’t identify with ENDA because they’ve never had a real job – certainly not a minimum-wage one at a fast food place.

But I guess they can’t identify with ENDA because they’ve never had a real job – certainly not a minimum-wage one at a fast food place.

Btw it’s hilarious that Queerty’s auto-flag prohibits a** and even c*cktail (!!!!), jeepers, but it lets you say FUCK. Fuck fuck fuck!
Hyhybt
@almost vegetarian!: There’s no GOOD reason for a site like this to have a language filter anyway… but if they’re going to have one, it ought at least not to block any words that staff are allowed to use in their articles.
almost vegetarian!
@Hyhybt: Agree. You can try to quote directly from the article itself and get flagged! That’s just weird. And you can’t say a**, even though it’s in the Bible.
I think the weirdest one is “rac!st” – how is that even a “bad” word by any stretch of the imagination.
But as long as I can say FUCK I’m happy. Fuck fuck fuck!
Geoff
@almost vegetarian!: I don’t remember where I read this but If you want to be a chic fil a franchisee the company make sure you are “one of them” – out of the 1600 some odd stores how many are gay owned?
J Stratford
I like KFC – its my guilty pleasure… I only do it once a month or two though

@Hyhybt: Pelosi will pander to anyone and throw her own mother under the bus, if it means you will vote for her. I think the botox has long since gotten to her brain, have you listened to her talk, pure dribble and usually lies.
She’s much like obam and the black vote, they will vote for me cause I’m black too. Oh pretend like you like gays and they are so ignorant they will vote for you based on that. They will forget that you’ve destroyed the economy and made enemies of our allies, they won’t look at the millions of unemployed Americans, yep they are an easy buy.
