Nathan Hudson Out!

Australian singer Nathan Hudson came out of the closet this week. Hudson, who fronts the band Faker, told the Sunday Magazine that he hasn't always been so comfortable with his queerness: "My association with being gay was that it was bad and dark and not good for you. I had trouble finding people to look up to…"

That has all changed, of course, and Hudson says he looks forward to helping young faglings come into their own: "I’m happy to talk about being gay for that kid in the suburbs who’s 15 and scared.” Who says rockers are soulless bastards? No us!

For those of you not familiar with Faker's music, we've included the video for their latest single, "This Heart Attack".

Nathan is right, with respect to there being good role models too look up to. The raft of assimilationists like Sullivan, reinforced the idea that being queer was a shameful ideal that we should minimize by being as much like straight people as possible. There are a number of peo[ple who skittered into that closet, leaving younger people with much more shame to carry than they need to. It is important that gay peole have pride and openness in their difference!

Sounds like a million other groups/songs out there. More mope-rock. Wake me when someone actually makes some good music.

I hadn't heard of them, but I really like this song and the video is cool.

… I won't comment on what he said. I do feel a lot of artists are better off doing their thing and not talking at all… unless it is to promote their work.

If you haven't heard of Faker, you should really come out from under that Madonna/Cher rock more often.

Like the band, looove the lead singer, devastated that he's gay (just recovering from shock - breathe, breath … !).

Oh well - at least I know that fantasy has even less chance of coming to fruition!
