Those perennial gay rumors dogging John Travolta have resurfaced, this time in the form of a titillating National Enquirer cover story. (It’s not online yet, but Perez Hilton has the deets.)
The Hairspray actor allegedly picked up a hunky masseur he had met on Craigslist, then drove him to the Beverley Hilton hotel and offered him $200 an hour for sex.
“He tried to pay me for sex,” said the hired help, who passed a lie-detector polygraph test. “It was very clear that John Travolta wanted me to perform a sexual act on him and that he would pay me to do it.”
And that’s not all, folks. The masseur says Travolta tried to sweeten the pot by offering a threesome. With Tom Cruise, perhaps? Or maybe just your run-of-the-mill Grindr trick?
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Anyway, do you guys think John is a prosty-hiring john, or this just another tabloid fantasy? After all, the story is running alongside one claiming that Whitney’s daughter Bobbi attempted suicide, which is pretty demonstrably not true.

This is isn’t the first time tabloids have tried to out Travolta. Not too far back there was that kiss pic. Oh and how his PR team tried to explain that one! Travolta is no longer a bankable star so I think he should come out. But he won’t simply because he has spent so many years denying it and deceiving everyone by building and cultivating this phony straight and married life for himself. If he ever does come out, I don’t see how he could possibly spin it in a positive way.
James
This is OLD news. Closet queen Travolta has been hiring male prostitutes and going to bath houses for decades.
SteveC
John Travolta and Kelly Preston clearly have an ‘arrangement’. Don’t expect any divorce announcements.
John McLaren
You must remember Scientology offers a cure for disordered behaviours. It has been said that the church provides a great cover for gay celebrities, even setting up marriages with understanding women. For a Scientologist to come out would be blasphemy and would bring the “religion” and its transformational powers into question.
Christopher
I don’t know about this one. I would think he would be using a high end discreet agency, not a random Craigslist ad. But then again, look at Hugh Grant.
Christophe Banks
Not that I want to piss on anyone’s fire, but this is the same newspaper that re-reported the Roswell crash 30 years after it happened (and had been thoroughly debunked): http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4079
If he’s going to come out, I’m sure he’ll do so in his own time. Either that, or we’ll find out in a horribly self-destructive way after his death a la Liberace.

Somewhere, Paul Baressi is chuckling.

But it’s also the paper that reported that Clay Aiken was gay, Ricky Martin, Rosie O’Donnell, AND was nominated for a Pulitzer for being the only publication to print the John Edwards adultry and campaign fund fraud story.
Scientology’s main perk used to be that they would help celebs cover up any “ISsues” they didn’t want to go public with.
Kyle
National Enquirer is usually right. Sorry.
Farquart
Oh lord, how many times is the Enguirer going to out that poor guy. Leave him the fuck alone.
Oh, ok.
lol
Jim
They should leave him alone. If he wants to hire a male escort, that’s his business. He’s not in public office and is entitled to enjoy himself.
Chris
All this means is that the Enquirer found yet another low life who was willing to tell them a story. Passing a lie detector test is trivial and instructions can be found online. Scientology has “cured” many gays privately, but publicly they claim to be inclusive so I doubt if they would object much to Travolta coming out. They’re probably far more worried that Travolta will have something to say about the death of his son, who may very well have died from a medical condition that was being treated with Scientology instead of good science.
None of this proves he’s not gay or bi, but it does mean we don’t have any more info about it than we always have. And yeah, Travolta has never been homophobic or offensive as far as I can tell, so I say leave him alone.
Bec
you can pass a lie detector test by clenching your sphincter (SP?) muscles at the right time …that said . who gives a rats ass about John being gay . its Johns business . no one else’s and he has a right to be closeted if he so chooses. get a life people . live and let live.
EmmaMTF
He was in Hairspray. Enough said.
Mrs Patrick Campbell
This story is useless without a nude photo of the ‘masseur’!
geoff
All Travolta was offering was $200. Has he looked in a mirror lately? $2,000. would be more like it.
Charlie-o
A masseur who advertises on Craigs List. The poor guy must have been shocked . . . utterly shocked at the proposal. But what’s $200 when you can sell your story to a tabloid.
I don’t know if he did or he didn’t, but that masseur was unprofessional Hasn’t he ever heard of masseur/client priviledge?
KSKSK
What ever happened to that guys tell all book about that bath house in la that supposedly travolta and will smith frequented.
Paul
These supermarket rags in a way kind of piss me off…they’re perpetuating the sensationalism of anything gay by making it so “shocking”. Idiots buy this shit and feed into this shit mentality. A shame.
Tom
I’ll never be able to watch Grease again…his public image as the ultimate ladies man has been forever tarnished…i hope Frenchy is nearby to give John some comfort during this difficult time ( she was such a positive influence on Sandy )!
Andrew
@KSKSK -I remember that guy and his book! His site is still up, just search for Travolta never spa in this town again. I agree that this is old news about Revolta and not surprising at all. Revolta is rumored to have size meat!
KyleW
The day that queerty is referring to the National Enquirer for news is the day this site utterly relinquishes any claim at integrity.
And who gives a fuck who Travolta fucks? Isn’t he entitled to the same privacy as everyone else?
Half the people celebrating Travolta’s supposed outing are the same people bleating about Clementi’s right to privacy not half a dozen stories over. Just because Travolta is a star doesn’t man his private life is an open book, and arguably, he has far more at stake than Clementi.
How is it when Clementi is spied on, it’s invasion of privacy, murder, blah blah blah, but when the newspapers all report on Travolta and you all gleefully rip the guy to shreds it’s perfectly reasonable? You’re damned hypocrites.
cwm
On the CoS’ “tone scale” (in which positive vs. negative emotional states are rated by number), homosexuality is about as low as you can get. Any ordinary member known to have indulged would be relegated to the Rehabilitation Project Force. Meaning: slave labor, awful living conditions and great difficulty getting back into the org’s good graces.
Celebrity members however are not held to the same standards.
Now that’s hypocrisy.
keke
What the Grease guy is being caught again doing what gay again? HUH?
Come out for God Sakes, Your a global joke on what a MO your are!
Drag Tom with You, Who cares at this point.
TK
His business, one of ours!
evji108
People have seen him in gay bath houses for years. I have read personal accounts of his propositions to guys in the steam room. He is pretty brazen about it. I would bet money on him being really into dick.
wingfield
LET ME JUST SAY… the Enquirer is certainly NOT usually right. When you make up 1,000 stories it’s easy to get lucky and one of them be right. They accuse EVERYONE of being gay and would get sued into bankruptcy for libel if it weren’t for how the courts work with these kinds of things….. that being said no one is doubting the sexuality of John Travolta >.<
steve sydney
What would Sandy think…
Riker
As to the enquirer’s accuracy, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Travolta doesn’t have to fear being sent to the RPF. That is an honor reserved for Sea Org members, and celebs aren’t allowed to join the Sea Org. If they express interest, they are told that they are being given an honorary membership, which has no actual duties.
However, if he should do something to tarnish the “reputation” of Scientology or RTC, i’m sure they have a lot of embarrassing info gained from auditing sessions that could suddenly become public knowledge. They’ve done it before.
As to those who think Travolta deserves his privacy, I would normally be inclined to agree. However, when he publicly and financially supports a dangerous, seditious and violent cult, i’d say all bets are off and he becomes Fair Game.
Now, i’m sure an OSA goon will be along shortly to tell me how wrong I am and to visit an org to prove it, so i’ll head that off by saying i’ve been inside many, many orgs, and you don’t want me going back.
KyleW
@Riker: Yes, I see your point on this one. Usually I would argue that I need to extend the same rights to my enemies that I expect them to extend to me, but given the pulicly state policies of Scientology, and its despicable way of attacking its detractors, I have to agree completely with you that as a willing advocate for that organisation, Travolta deserves absolutely NO mercy – jus as his cult would behave towards others. Thanks for setting me straight.
Red Assault
I was once talking to a former staff member of a gay porn reality show/cam site thing called Fratpad and when I asked him why they had moved their operation from Hollywood to a remote island in Hawaii, he laughed and said “it was either that or continue to have the boys showing up late to work because they had either been up all night getting boned by andy dick, John travolta, David Geffen, Bryan Singer or having a three way with Will and Jada.”

Actually that isn’t true, The courts here would nail the paper if they were wrong. That is why people like Mary Kate Olsen when they accused her of being annorexic said “I’m looking into my legal options.” They can’t sue when it’s true. If it wasn’t true, they get nailed. Again, John Edwards campaign, Clay Aiken, Ricky Martin, Rosie O’Donell etc.. they ALL tried to say “Oh, it’s just the Enquirer” And yet it was right about every one of them.

What does the average bathhouse employee earn? Not much over minimum wage I’m guessing. If Travolta has been hitting the clubs in LA for as long as some of these comments claim, I’m thinking someone would have come up with a cell phone pic of him, if only for financial gain. And the bit about him going to the Beverly Hilton, not exactly the lowest profile and considerably more public then say the Beverly Hills Hotel or Bel Air. If Travolta was coming/going with CL hookups (whatever they claim their occupation to be), some would have gotten a pic. Travolta is def closet homo, and thus an easy target.
FunMe
@KSKSK: It’s out and the book is called “You’ll never spa in the town again”.
FunMe
here’s the web site to the book “You’ll never spa in this town again”

It’s hilarious!!
MikeinBmore
if he’s too ashamed of himself to be honest about his sexual orientation, then he would most likely also be okay with the idea of hiring a hooker. Shame runs deep and touches every part of you. I mean, I don’t speak from experience, I’ve been out for 20 years.

I am a massage therapist in Hawaii (and not a “masseur” although there are plenty of those around) and the therapist community here, particularly at some of the resorts, is rife with stories of Travolta propositioning male therapists in professional massage settings. As licensed therapists if we participate in sexual relations with clients it is immediate grounds to lose your license and consequently, the means to support yourself. In fact, in Hawaii, we are not technically permitted to even date someone we have massaged the previous two years. There are plenty of people who do perform “body work” and that’s who Travolta should see when visiting Hawaii. Sad that so many still feel the need to be closeted. Humanity has such a long way to go. Sigh.

@Cam:
CMON, most of these celebrities have better things to do than spend YEARS in court suing a scummy newspaper. Oprah talked about why she never sues these people who make lies against her because it just drains your energy and keeps you in a negative space for a long time. And Cmon… look at the other headlines on that page “Whitney Daughter slit wrist in Suicide attempt” I’m not saying they’re never right… but they get away with printing MANY MANY MANY false stories by claiming they had “reliable sources”
DonsterNYC
You know, there have been thousands, probably ten of thousands, of guys (happily married to women) caught with their pants down in the arms of another man. Why is it any of our business? Everyone has the right to a relationship of their choosing. My own father had boyfriends all his life and I would have been outraged if anyone dared to chastise him for it. Recently I’ve seen a ton of articles about bisexuality; about how they are bullied by both the gays and the straights; that is bigotry. Guess what? Shakespeare was right on when he said, “He doth protest to much,” or something close to that. I firmly believe that that the most rabid anti-gay hate spewing bigots have felt intense feeling of a sexual nature for another of the same sex. They abhor it because of their upbringing. Despite arguments to the contrary, a person can explicitly love, honor and cherish another til death do you part and still have sexual relationships outside of that marriage. If society could separate sex and marriage we would be a whole lot better off. The sexual urges that we feel are a biological function wired into our DNA that are designed to overwhelm us and because of bizarre societal pressures they cause immeasurable angst throughout lives. History confirms that some people can suppress these urges, but we see a whole lot more people who have have not. If John and his wife have an open relationship, then we need to back off. Believe me my mother KNEW and yet never had an issue with it–they are still HAPPILY married today.
Franco
I don’t get why so many people care if this man is gay or not.
NsOmNiAc
Does it really matter…. who gives a fuck?
camote
@DonsterNYC Thank you so much for sharing that story. Its a human story, and there are millions like it. Its a story I know about. Much appreciation.
camote
@MikeinBmore, You can be out for 100 years and still have shame. The stain of shame, like a habit, can be a state of consciousness that resides long after the ’cause’ is removed. You can also be out and proud and hire hookers.
Mike
They need to talk with his pilot Doug from the 80’s, who never signed a silence agreement
Shannon1981
This is hardly news. I dislike bearding for reasons that would be obvious to anyone posting on this site, but Travolta is a Scientologist, and we all know the Xenu crowd is homophobic as hell. So, no surprise. However, he has never appeared to be publicly homophobic, so leave him alone, I say.
Shannon1981
@Charlie-o: He’s CL hooker, not a shrink..
Blah, bla..huh?
If JT comes out, will Scientology put the thetans back in his head forcefully? See, there’s another blockbuster movie idea, but am I getting paid? No.
Shannon1981
@Blah, bla..huh?: He won’t come out. Shaming the church is a big thing in Scientology. They keep the secrets of celebrities (which I believe is the real purpose behind this cult), and the celebs present what the church deems a respectable face to the public. None of the closet cases in there will ever come out, because the church audits their lives. They’d tell everything.
Blah, bla..huh?
@Shannon1981: “He won’t come out. Shaming the church is a big thing in Scientology.”….Well, *ahem*, yeah. I know. Hence the snarky post in a faux-ignoramous-bitchy-queen tone on the gay site you’re reading….Actually never mind. You’ve cleared that up for me, or something. Thanks.
Shannon1981
@Blah, bla..huh?: Sorry, hard to grab sarcasm in written text sometimes.
Dionte
$200 an hour is not enough but then again I haven’t has sex in over 5 years so to me an hour seems like an eternity. $2,000 for an hour or until climax, whichever comes first sounds goods.
Shannon1981
@Dionte: All these gay hook up sites and no sex in five years?
AMcA
@KyleW: The Enquirer actually has a very good record. Remember John Edwards? Nobody believed for a long time he was knocking up his mistress and paying her off with campaign funds, as the Enquirer reported.
But they were, and Edwards is currently under indictment for same.
