National Organization for Marriage Proudly Brings Kids Into New York’s Debate

We’ve been waiting for you, National Organization for Marriage! The anti-gay marriage outfit’s message for New Yorkers has arrived, encouraging equality opponents to call their senators — and it’s here just in time for new polling data that says New Yorkers want the issue put to a vote even if the New York Senate can’t definitely pass a bill. (Just 15 percent of respondents thought senators should wait until they’re certain the bill will pass to get to a vote.) If anything, NOM is supporting local media, who desperately need those misplaced advertising dollars.

I’m sure the folksy southern accent will really draw in lots of New Yorkers.

it was always about kids. they’re afraid we’ll turn their spawn into homos.

as a result, they simply create self-hating homos… at the same 5% rate as everyone else.

“Legalizing Gay Marriage has consequences for kids” – oh, you know, like opening them up to diversity, teaching them to be more accepting, and uh… not indoctrinating them with religious fundamentalism and bigotry.

      NOM is disgusting.

@Mattbydesign: Best news ever. I wonder if they can fix it now or is it too late?

      This is blood libel!!!

Google it, folks. For years, Christians did it to the Jews. Now, conservative “Christians” are doing it against the LGBT community.

If this isn’t blood libel against the LGBT community, I don’t know what is. Call them OUT ON THIS SHIT!!!!

And the eerie, spine tingling music in the background. Like some grade B melodrama about aliens taking over the planet.

Oh wait. The aliens (gays) are taking over the planet, according to the conservative Christians.

I mean, Sally Kern has already warned us on how the gehys are “infiltrating” the government, hasn’t she?

Last I heard, politicians are elected, by the voting populace, into office. But, what would we plebeians know about anything?

If it’s not one stupid exaggeration or lie it’s another. Why can’t they, just once, come up with something actually based on concrete fact?

The people of New York who support marriage equality should be very concerned about these ads. In California these ads were very successful in clouding the debate and playing on the fears of people who otherwise were open to our rights.

Think of your grandmother, more importantly think of the grandmother who doesn’t have a gay grandchild sitting at her TV and seeing this ad. Because this ad plays on her emotions and her fears she goes into protect the children mode. Like it or not this means a NO Vote for marriage equality.

These ads need to be countered by video ads of gay parents and straight parents with their kids talking about how they WANT their kids to be aware of the world around them and that all people regardless of issue deserve respect love and an equal opportunity before the law.

Yea I know this is the point where we hold hands and sing Kum Ba Yah but please learn from the disastrous campaign ran in California when they hid gay couples from the airwaves.

I take it that they wanted to get Bill Cosby to do the voice over but couldn’t put the money together.

I live on Kauai, and a couple of months ago when the possibility of having Civil Unions here was so close you could taste it, the local freakstians had protests and when those protests weren’t enough, they brought out the big guns, THE CHILDREN. Yep. They lined the main highway up with kids with anti-same-sex marriage. And being that Kauai is well, for a lack of better term, the hillbillies of Hawaii, the paper just ate it all up.
      Cover story and all.
It was disgusting. Filling childrens minds with lies and fear.

      @mb00:

And the sad part of it, MB00, is that this sort of brain-washing of children is legal. :-(

Yet, they protest loudly if anyone tries to show the children the other side of the story.

Same with religion. They want (insist) on teaching creationism in schools, but don’t want them to learn about evolution.

Nothing but a bunch of lying control freaks.

      Shame on NOM.
