Navy: Yeah, We Totally Dropped the Ball On Joseph Rocha’s Horrific Abuse Allegations

rochadog

Well wasn’t this nice of the Navy, to admit that, uh, they didn’t do a good job investigating during their investigation into the abuse of gay sailor Joseph Christopher Rocha and others stationed in Bahrain. AP: “Leaders should have done more to investigate numerous hazing allegations against a gay sailor and others in a unit stationed in Bahrain several years ago, the Navy said Wednesday. The Chief of Naval Operations has sent a letter of counseling to retired Vice Adm. Robert T. Conway, the former Commander, Naval Installations Command, who was the final endorser of a June 2007 investigation that has been criticized for failing to be thorough. The letter notes that ”more should have been done to determine what officers in the chain of command knew about allegations of hazing and what actions they took to address those allegations,’ said Navy spokeswoman Cmdr. Elissa Smith.”

I love how proponents of DADT always make it sound like “the gays” are going to victimize and abuse “the straights,” when in fact it’s probably the other way around.

The Navy is doing such a great job in Haiti, I am so proud of them:

The then-unit commander and chief perpetrator of the hazing, Michael Toussaint, not only was not initially held accountable for his actions, he was promoted. The then-second in command of the unit, Jennifer Valdivia, was so terrified and depressed that she was going to be scapegoated and imprisoned, took her own life. Rocha suffers from ongoing PTSD. Finally five years after the fact Toussaint is being forced out of the Navy and his retirement pay grade will be reviewed next month.

@joedee1969: You do realize that your link says nothing about the job the Navy is doing in Haiti or anywhere else, right?

I still haven’t heard an apology from the Navy for the bomb they dropped on Afghanistan from the USS Enterprise which said “high-jack this fags” on it. I wrote to the head of the Navy when it happened, never got an apology, and I know no discipline was taken on the soldiers involved because I know someone who was on that ship. FUCK the Navy. They do nothing but insult us even as we give our lives for our country and serve our country brilliantly. FUCK the Navy.

Here’s a photo of the above-mentioned “highjack this fags” bomb on a Navy plane: http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=585

The Navy issued a non-apology apology in which an admiral hilariously claimed that the Navy doesn’t discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.
