NBC Asks Gay Man To TV Table
William Sledd Set For World Domination, Stereotype Perpetuation

William Sledd's one lucky lavender. The proud gay man of YouTube's "Ask A Gay Man" just signed a development deal with NBC Universal, the same media giant that brought us Queer Eye for The Straight Guy.

The 23-year old Kentucky native and Gap manager remains mum on the deal's details, but did take a second to toot his own horn:

Everything is falling into place. Everyone wants a little bit of William. The next couple months are going to be big. I can't tell whether this is the beginning of the 15 minutes or the end, and I am just waiting to find out.

Us, too. We're absolutely pins and needles, in fact. Oh, wait, no we're not.

My GOD he's obnoxious. But naturally the media whore is just eating it right up. If he wants to be NBC's next gay minstrel (and they seem to be cornering the market on that), it's his soul.

Hate to sound like a hater, but this guy is a complete mess. I would no sooner trust his fashion advice than I would his advice on hairstyles. Swept bangs are not cute. (Plus, did anyone catch that he's a manager at the GAP?!) You can take the queen out of Kentucky, but you can't take the Kentucky out of the queen…

I had the misfortune of seeing the YouTube clip that made him not-so-famous. I laughed at him, not with him. I also overhead him in NYC blabbing about some "deal with NBC" (once he opened his mouth, I put the swept bangs and irritating persona together to figure out how the hell this queen seemed familiar!). The only deal NBC should put together is a battle royale between what's-his-name-YouTube-guy and Kojo! Then he should be sent back to obscurity (read: Kentucky).

I'm all for NBC annointing another 15-minute-queen…just not this one.

What's with that awkwardly popped-collar? Lifestyle advice from some douchebag who pops his collar and puts the first letter of his name all over his room like a 14 year old girl? Oh no…oh hell no..

I'm surprised he's 23, because that room screams "I still live with my parents!" and his "acting" ability is on par with a highschool drama student.

just wondering WHO said NBC said they signed him. I'll bet it was him. He's probably so clueless, he sent a tape to NBC developemnt, and got back a form response: "We're considering your project…" and thought that meant he was 'signed."

He is adorable and means well but he's totally innocuous and bland and doesn't really need a show.

This is just corporate churning out of inoffensive, momentarily chic gay cliche fluff. It's so sycophantic.

Good on him for moving forward and ahead etc. Congrats on the contract and good luck but his work is totally forgettable. Who cares about fashion advice from a gay man whose entire aesthetic is so utterly bland, common and generic.

I think William brings the Internet to life in a way no other gay person has.

YouTube seems to be a magnet for coming out of the closet announcements, and it looks like William was in the right place at the right time saying the right things.
