Queerty is better as a member
Not surprising Sean is talented but this show just wasn’t really funny .
If I want a show about LGBT families, I’ll watch The Fosters which is much better written and (surprise) is a hit.
The show was horrible, more like Jack Saves the World.
I really hate to say that we all saw this coming.
Never mind the writing, it’s the cast that just did not work.
The chemistry and tone of the entire show was just off.
Well, now Sean can focus more on his other show Grimm.
The show was just plain terrible.
Apparently Sean’s Ego stepped all over the writing team….not the first time too…
Queen please, you got plenty of money and other successful TV projects. STFU with the minimum wage jokes.
The show had a few moments though. I really liked Thomas Lennon as the boss. The rest of the cast was “meh”. Could have been saved if the writing was more daring. It was trying to hard to be “post-gay”.
Intolerant alright. Intolerant of a sitcom that isn’t funny.
Besides, it’s not the only sitcom that isn’t getting great ratings.
There is a ton of homophobia in the country and the world and I’ll be the first to admit that. That said, if you claim every thing is homophobia or intolerance you cheapen that message.
It felt dated like a ’90s sitcom. There are a few others floating around out there that have that ’90s vibe. That’s just not how a sitcom is done anymore. Take heed. The writing, the chemistry, the whole rhythm of the show was flawed.
Sean Hayes got pissy when he came out and basically attacked the gay community and acted like a nasty bitter Betty.
Then he needed an audience and suddenly was trying to get gays to watch his show.
The problem is, that the networks will think this means that gay shows won’t work. No, shows headlined by irritating people don’t work.
Just because you’re gay, it doesn’t mean you’re interesting. This is the trap that many gay men fall into – ie that they are interesting simply on account of being gay.
Earth to gay men: you are dull by nature. Dull, dull, dull. That’s why you need to go out every Friday and Saturday night…to spice things up.
I think Sean, Linda Lavin and Parvesh were the strongest people on the show….the boss character was just too outrageous, you need to have a level of believability…it just did not work with the daughter, the BFF and the coworker…the writing was off and that is why it really died….
The other thing about male homosexuality on TV is that female viewers tend to avoid it because it discounts the importance of women in men’s lives. Keep in mind this very important fact about women – they will only watch things that confirm their importance in men’s lives.
Women are narcissists by nature. They obsess over themselves. From hair to fashion, they are one non-stop narcissist train. Male homosexuality represents a rejection of them, and they don’t like it.
@jimbryant–Ahhhhhhhhahahaha You’re funny or just insane and possibly a hater of women.
Wanted to like the show but the clapping between scenes was too much for me.
Bring Jack and Karen back to prime time network TV (minus the clapping, of course)!
Sean Hayes appears to have only one note in his acting repertoire and it’s played out. Perhaps he, Scott Thompson and that other bitter queen… Rupert Everett could get together and create a really funny show about three gay actors who are thrown together because of their mutual regret, blaming coming out for ruining their careers and cutting off any chances at Lead Man status. Two could be remarkably bitchy while the other is a coke-addicted drunk who hires 19-year-olds from porn producers and thinks nobody notices.
I’m sorry but a lot of you gay guys are deluded. You think that being gay is an achievement. LOL. Being gay is NOT an achievement. Let me explain.
Men have been gay for millions of years. They were gay many, many years ago. They had sex with men in public, in private…you name it. What you are doing today in terms of your sex lives is no different from what men were doing millions and millions of years ago.
So I stick a camera in front of some ditzy queens. What makes you think this is going to be compelling viewing?
Wouldn’t it be great if the TV producers made a sit-com in which the gay guy was nasty towards women? These days, any sit-com with a gay guy must show him as being nice to women. It’s PC gone mad. No wonder these shows are flopping.
Why do you hate women so much? You’ve yet to answer me.
You probably hate your mother too.
There are far worse shows that have not been cancelled. The cast was fine, the writing serviceable. Two things killed this program.
1)Time slot. Thursday had for ages been “must see TV” for NBC. However the night is solidly in the pocket of CBS. The Millers and The Crazy Ones successfully joined the #1 Comedy The Big Bang Theory and the long running Two And A Half Men in a 2 hour comedy block that left no room for competing comedies.
2) The show never decided what kind of show it was. Was it a workplace comedy? Was it a modern family (lower case) comedy? Was Sean supposed to be the star or was the intent for him to be like Bob Newhart and let the supporting cast do the heavy lifting because his character was poorly conceived? And finally, what in heaven’s name did Sean Saves The World mean? Was he supposed to have a superhero secret identity? Was he meant to work for a non-profit or a law firm doing things that changed people’s lives? The whole venture was a muddled mess with no one to blame but Sean Hayes as he was the producer (which he has successfully been with programs that did not feature him).
@Cam: You got that shit right! Its about time that dumbed down drivel got canned. Besides, who wants to see Just Jack playing Ms. Mom to a brat…instead of hanging out with awesome fag hag pal, Karen.
@Alan down in Florida: well said…
On the bright side, HBO’s “Looking” is great fun.
It won’t be long before Looking is cancelled too. Its ratings are in the sink. I don’t see it being renewed after the first season is over.
The big mistake made by producers of gay-themed TV shows is that they think the mere fact of a character being gay is sufficient to make it interesting. This is a fatal mistake which leads to lazy writing and laboured plots.
My Uncle Lincoln recently got a nearly new silver Ford Mustang Boss 302 just by some parttime working online… see here now>>> http://x.co/3ljO6
@jimbryant: Why do you hate women so much dude?
A show like this needs to be on a network that nurtures their shows, takes time to let them develop an audience before yanking them. Maybe TBS where Cougar Town is, or FX or USA… somewhere where ratings aren’t the only thing that matters.
I loved this show… it was a must for me every Thursday.
Jim, what I find interesting about you is this. You continually make comments about how stupid, or ignorant, or what liars gay men are, how they are always doing something wrong, and you follow that up with similar about women, or whomever else you are attacking in that post.
Just a quick question. Have you ever had anything nice to say about anything that has been written about on Queerty or mentioned in the comments.
A very simple question, when are you NOT attacking everybody, complaining and name calling? Just one example please.
Are we taking bets on how long it takes Sean Hayes to blame the gay community for his show’s demise? You know the complaint: we are particularly vicious to gay folks trying to succeed; we don’t support our own, etc. I give it a month.
