Britain’s bent boys better get excited. Doctor Who and Queer As Folk writer Russell T. Davies announced he’s working on a new gay drama about mid-life homos:
“It’s going to be about fortysomething gay men and how jealous they are of gay teenagers…I’ve been longing to write something for adults.”
In the interview, Davies said that the inspiration for the new drama is a friend, a former Mr Gay UK, who split up from his boyfriend.
“He asked me: ‘Why are so many gay men so glad we split up?’ That remark’s stayed with me for six years. I think there’s a self-punishing streak in that gladness and I want to explore it.”
A bunch of bitchy older queens fighting over younger men? Sounds like a reality show.

Speaking as one with a thirty year relationship with kids, and one in his 60s and the other in his 50’s, Nigel and I are absolutely tired of the fare produced that gave the UK and then the US version of QAF and now this.
There is a problem in the universal western society about aging…this despite the fact that the majority of folks are aging on this planet. In the gay and less in the lesbian community, there is dismissal of the older gay man, or the older gay couple as one who seeks the “company” of adult teens and young adults.
PATERNAL INSTINCT – POPPA AND DADDY – and other programmes speak to the health and maturity of gay persons (pun intended).
I am afraid that there will always be a streak of the pornographic when only the most vile heterosexuals would support the rights of gay persons by selling them booze, bars, and sex before and after Stonewall. It is similar to the men who owned businesses in black ghettoes.

What about a show for 40-something men who are NOT into younger guys?
Rt. Rev. Dr. RES
Exactly…especially if you were involved in raising Gen X yourself (LOL).
I still believe that the Mafia types who owned prostitution and bars and the seedy side of sex for both straights and gays, miss the profits.
After all, monogamous coupling with kids is not what made these homophobes wealthy at the expense of their hated customers.
I am so everloving tired of negative imagery to reinforce the stereotype of the prowling faggot with 800 tricks a week syndrome. I am equally tired of those who promote circuit parties, unprotected sex called the “gift” and those who make would-be allies shudder at the thought.

RTD is a genius, regardless of Queer as folk he is Britain’s answer to Joss Wheddon.
Miore sci fi please Russell and please sort Torchwood out, it’s a fucking merss.

I myself am a forty-something in a 27 year old relationship with a fifty-something. We have raised one son. Yes I would like to be represented on televsion(besides a reality-docu-special). However its the same thing for the hets. Sex, scandles, convoluted plots all sell TV ads. And I still like sex so I will be watching on BBC America, but the docu-specials get kind old after awhile. Go Torchwood!

The only 40 something gay men who are jealous of gay teenagers are the ones who hid out in the closet until they were in their 20s. And those jealous types are the ones who live at the gym and clubs and party like teenagers.
I was out to friends and openly gay in some circles since I was 15, I got bored with the clubs and the scene by the time I was 22, I’m in my 40s and I don’t envy anything about gay teenagers today. When I was young, we were so happy to be out and be ourselves. Nowadays young men and the older gays who emulate them are so stuck in this “post gay” “A&F-fied” or “Ghetto-thugged” bullshit about being gay. They are all so terrified of being viewed as weak or feminine that they are more uptight than straight men.

My partner and I are both 39 and took in two 21 year olds in a pure mentoring situation. I don’t envy or yearn for the young’uns at all. I am very happy with my relationship with my partner and our careers. I would not want to be 21 and starting all over.
I agree…where are we in the media?

Davies is an ass! While there was much to like in the original “Queer As Folk” he refused to show his characters using condoms or even talking about safe sex. For all its weaknesses, the American version at least got that right. And now Davies wants to produce something that portrays us all as bitter chicken queens? Fuck him, and not in the good way.
