New Jersey Trans Woman Stabbed To Death By Roommate

eyricka-morganA trans woman found stabbed in her New Brunswick apartment died from her injuries hours later on Tuesday.

According to The Guerrilla Angel Report, the victim is 26-year-old Eyricka Morgan, though she has been misgendered in the media and referred to as Evan.

Police have arrested 21-year-old Devonte Scott, who lived in the same boarding house as Morgan, charging him with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the death of Morgan. His bail has been set at $1 million.

Morgan, a former student at Rutgers, was involved with the North Jersey Community Research initiative. In 2011, she was profiled by Rutgers Today in connection with the university’s Queer Newark Conference.

“I had to make a decision,” Morgan said at the time, recalling when family members told her “all gay men have AIDS’’ and forbid her from dressing like a woman. “Either I be myself or let others control me. So at 14 or 15, I packed up all my stuff and I left.’’

Police ask anyone with information to call Det. Kenneth Abode of New Brunswick Police at (732) 745-5200 or Investigator Jose Rodriguez of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3300.
