Blake, I wasn't agreeing with the notion that any particular ethnic group is going to come out in droves to harm LGBTs with their vote. I was just commenting on how silly it is to suggest that Barack's drawing black voters is potentially a bad thing for gays when these same individuals didn't make similar arguments about the potential for Hillary's supporters being as bad.

Fredo777,

This crap about labeling 40 million African-Americans and 48 million Latinos as this or that is bullshit. We're talking about 88 million human beings not robots.

The Bush administration tried to get support with some African-American ministers and failed. The conservatives favorite evil-doers, Sharpton and Jackson, organized pro-gay tolerance campaigns.

Barack Obama has toured the country speaking out for gay rights at African-American churches and continued to win large shares of votes.

As for Latinos, let's be real about what it means to be Latino. A Cuban is not a Mexican and a Mexican is not a Dominican and Dominican is not a Guatemalan. White Cubans in Miami have been traditionally big supporters of the GOP. While Puerto Ricans of different "races" in New York have been largely Democratic. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in Chicago have been largely Democratic voters, too.

It's all about coalitions. The Republicans in many states like New Jersey, Illinois, and the Southwest have been stridently using racist imagery of brown hordes invading the U.S. from Latin America.

New Jersey's Tom Tancredo couldn't failed miserably in the Republican primaries and Jim Oberweis in Illinois has been slaughtered in three campaigns for state-wide office.

Oberweis had a commercial of him flying over a football stadium and talking about everyday a stadium-worth of Latinos sneak into America to steal jobs. He had his hat handed to him soundly.

Only someone really stupid or blinded by racism would vote against her/his interests and vote a party that has shown dedication to hurting her/his interests. (Gay Republicans and McCain supporters, are you listening?)

How are they "not... far apart" on same-sex marriage? Obama supports full repeal of DOMA, civil unions, and opposes all state and federal marriage ban constitutions (including California's). McCain supports DOMA, is against civil unions and any recognition of gay partnerships beyond "making contracts," and--while he opposes a federal marriage amendment--supports amending state constitutions, presumably including California's. The Plain Dealer needs to check their facts.

Funny that they included Hispanics among those likely to be socially conservative, considering Clinton's appeal to Hispanic voters + all of the speculation (some from Clinton supporters) that Obama's drawing Black voters to the polls could be bad for LGBTs.

Hooray! I'm sure all of the McCain supporters must be thrilled to hear about the conservatives rallying against gay marriage! The thought of McCain beholden to the homophobes and appointing anti-gay judges to the Supreme Court and federal courts must overwhelm them with joy!
