Riiiight, cause she did SO much to help us defeat it in the first place.

Yeah, that’s bullshit.
She should have said more beforehand.

Thanks for nothing Madonner. Where the fuck was your mouthpiece before the election. Fuck her. She tired anyway.
Chris
She was too busy studying homophobic kablahblah. Those fuckers hate us too.
Jocko
LOL. Nice move on the Obama support. I am a conservative white male, who supports gay rights. Blacks voted against gay marriage proposals in the 80 percent range.
Go Obama. The socialist worked out well for you folks.
fredo777
Jocko, get your facts straight.
Darth Paul
Thanks, Fredo777.
Coochboogers like Jocko are the reason why racism will never die in this country. Something about the conservative mindset refuses to accept anything but a dualist mindset.
First, Obama is hardly a typical African American. As we Jews see it, the ethnicity of who raised is who you are. Thus, Obama is pretty white and probably has more in common with Jocko than Jocko’d ever care to admit.
Second, howTF do votes for an individual who happens to LOOK like a certain group translate to that certain group being obligated to give the voter specific rights? That’s like a pothead voting for an Asian female expecting ALL ASIAN FEMALES to abruptly support marijuana decriminalization.
Finally, I’m SO SURE voting for a precious white conservative would give you all those gay rights you those horrible socialist negroes WON’T give you.
Cody
And where the fuck were you before, Madonna?
PS ‘Confessions’ was much better than ‘Hard Candy’ and I still think you’re pretty swell, but seriously! A bit late, no?

Typical ill informed, CUNTY responses to anything Madonna related on queerty. The woman is in the middle of a world wide tour, and has been going through her own marriage of 8 years. Was she supposed to be marching through west Hollywood holding up picket signs? She is and has always been supportive of gay rights, and has voiced her opposition to prop 8 previously. In fact her touring company (live nation) donated several thousand dollars to the cause.
In any case she is not responsible for the defeat of gay marriage in california. The people who voted yes on prop 8, are not gonna listen to Madonna.
Marc
OH PLEEASE !
I’m so sure that Madonna fans, or anyone that listens to her, voted Yes on Prop 8.
She owes you nothing, NOBODY DOES!
Or owe me anything.
Just because we buy her records she OWES us something?????
I’ll never understand some of you guys.
michael
Thanks Madonna. But boys and girls, nobody is going to save us but us. As long as human rights are up for a vote by the masses, somebody is gonna get f*cked over. Humanity is not evolved enough to be Democratic about human rights. Humans are still, superstitious, fear based, selfish and self centered. Thats why we kill everyone who is not, Martin Luther King, Gandhi and of course the guy the Christian Reich won’t let off the cross. I believe this is what we need to work toward because a door has now been opened and America could become a modern day version of Nazi Germany. We have witnessed that human beings learn things very slowly, if at all. This is a 2nd grade planet and its a long way till graduation.

The reason we have rights enumerated in the Constitution is because the “Founding Fathers” knew that people were too stupid or too selfish to vote fairly on any human rights issues. That is why this country is a Constitutional Republic and not a Democracy.

Re: No. 6 · Jocko….
Increased voter turnout is a good thing never a bad thing. If those voters were supplied with good information before the election that would be even better.
None of this changes the fact that in a good democracy, minority rights should not be put to a majority vote. This is why the constitution exists. This is why these judges upheld the constitution and defeated the old law that banned gay marriage.

Jocko – Educate yourself. Please.
Those exit polls are NOT accurate. Exit polls declared John Kerry the winner in 2004, remember? Exit polls are to be handled with extreme caution. Part of their problem is they tend to very badly sample minorities.
Before the election in California, the Field Poll had African-Americans slightly supporting Prop. 8. That’s probably much more likely about turnout.
I am sick and tired of hearing this “It’s black people’s fault!” line. Did you donate to No on 8? Did you volunteer? Did you knock on doors to get people to go out and vote? Did anyone in the GLBTQ community put even a 10th of the effort into this proposition that the Mormons and evangelicals did? No!
Scapegoating is not the answer, and now more than ever, we need African-American gays and African-American allies to join together with Asian, white, and everyone else to overcome these stupid divisions and work for a common goal.

How can anyone give a sh!t about the talentless narcissist who overstayed her 15 mins. a couple of decades ago.
Her screechy voice would destroy any pleasure in hearing her music even if it weren’t vapid, her “acting ability” doesn’t rise to the level of a rumor, and if the “celebrity” veneer were stripped away then no one would look twice at a woman with all the glamour of a housewife from Topeka.

@dzerobc:
I wish I could agree that increased voter turnout is an unquestionably good thing, but I’m afraid I disagree quite strongly. First, from a practical perspective, had certain minorities turned out in their usual (already high) numbers at the polls, it’s likely that Proposition 8 would have been defeated. In California, Obama was going to get all 55 electoral votes anyway; a 99% turnout among certain minorities gave California nothing, and saddled us with Prop. 8.
Aside from dubious legal challenges hinging on the distinction between a “revision” and an “amendment” — and aside from the possibility of litigating Prop 8 (and other Hate Initiatives) in federal court a few years down the road, after some lefty judges are appointed — I actually think our best bet might be to run another ballot initiative in an off-year when, one hopes, minority voters will be blanketed with apathy.
fredo777
@Pragmatist:
Based on what?
Have you done any independent research other than taking CNN + the other networks’ exit polls as gospel? Btw, if you want the persons responsible for this passing to abstain from voting, also make sure that the white republican voters stay apathetic during the next vote.
Pragmatist
Hi, Freddo777.
No, of course I haven’t commissioned any independent studies of my own. But the exit polls that have been published are strongly suggestive; and frankly, the effect of increased minority turnout on Prop 8 was a known problem long ago – so I think it’s naive to think that it’s some kind of red herring that suddenly emerged after the election.
Of course I sincerely hope that conservative Republican voters would be apathetic during the next election that contains a gay rights initiative. However, bear in mind that the conservative Republican voters in this state were already quite discouraged during this election. I live in an area that is a reliable hotbed of SUV Christianity, and I was thrilled to discover that the polls in my community were empty.
Let me be clear: it’s wrong for GLBT nonminorities to allow themselves to be overtaken by feelings of racial hatred. I’m quite saddened (and, frankly, embarrassed!) to read these accounts of gay men shouting “Nigger” on Santa Monica Boulevard.
But it’s also naive, and lackadaisical, to pretend as if certain minorities did not play a critical role in the deprivation of civil rights to GLBT Californians. They did. And they were deeply hypocritical for doing it. That hypocrisy should not go unannounced.
fredo777
@Pragmatist:
My point was, based on what I’ve read following those exit polls, it has become apparent to me that they are not accurate enough to pin-point the entirety of the black voting population based upon a limited poll sampling.
I mean “we think this is a good representation based on our random polling” is a load of shit, in all honesty, when these organizations are throwing out a notion like 70% of an entire ethnic group of persons voted against gay marriage. Also, keep in mind that the numbers of black voters in favor of gay marriage more closely mirrored those of other ethnic groups in a recent Michigan vote.

Boom.
I’ve said before + will say again, I’m sure, that part of the reason why black voters in Cali did not vote more in favor of gay marriage this time is the fault of No on 8 + its failure to reach these voters specifically before the very last minute. Yes on 8 reached them; we didn’t.
