To paraphrase Madeline Albright’s sentiment, which was misquoted and misused last week by dear Sarah Palin – there is a special place in hell reserved for gay bashing gay men.
If more than one side of the political spectrum were amenable to the idea of the GLBT community existing with the same rights as hetero citizens, including freedom and peace from persecution, then perhaps the gay community wouldn’t be so ‘one-sided’ about this. Since that is not the case, the McCain/Palin camp should just go off quietly and fuck itself, something they obviously refuse to do.
As for Palin being booed, you know who I feel sorry for? Her poor kid, put out as a shield in front of her. What kind of a mother would subject a seven-year-old to that? Not one I would want to be next-in-line for the Presidency when an old guy with a history of cancer moves into the White House. “Reason” her way out of that, if you can. But the truth is clear, she views people as things to be used to achieve her goals, even if the person in question is her own child.

As for “i just cant stand how one-sided the gay community is about politics,” whenever I hear that, it typically means 1) I prefer tax loopholes for the wealthy to civil rights for everyone, and 2) my civil rights really aren’t a concern because I am wealthy enough and white enough that I don’t worry about discrimination. I’m not brainwashed, Men-Sar, I just think about people other than myself once in a while. I think about the millions of people who have no health care. I think about the thousands of people getting killed and wounded in a war we never should have been in in the first place. And I think about my friends who are demonized because the Republican party uses fear of gay people as “red meat” to their base instead of addressing real issues.

A HISTORIC TICKET…. Now that Sarah Palin has been found to have abused her powers, violated state ethics, and lied about it, I did a little digging and found an interesting historical footnote.
The McCain/Palin ticket is the first in American history in which both candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election.
McCain, of course, was admonished by Senate Ethics Committee “for exercising ‘poor judgment’ for intervening” with federal regulators on behalf of Charles Keating, as part of the infamous Keating Five scandal.
And now McCain’s running mate has also been found to have violated state ethics laws and abused the powers of her office, as part of the “Troopergate” scandal.
The nation has had 102 major-party tickets covering 51 presidential elections over more than two centuries. And we’ve never had a ticket in which both candidates on the same ticket were responsible for ethics violations before a national election. McCain/Palin is the first.
It makes the whole “reform” pitch a little more difficult, doesn’t it?

What about the gays who live in states with no protection from discrimination? Both Sarah Palin and John McCain are against legal protections against discrimination in the workplace and housing. Neither believes in gay marriage nor civil unions.
“Gay agenda”? What the hell is that really? Freedom from persecution? Not having to worry that a 13-year-old kid won’t get bullied in school? Freedom to see a partner in a hospital? The ability to be recognized as a full citizen in the United States?
