"A gay D.C. police officer on Oct. 26 found anti-gay graffiti scrawled on his locker at the Third District police substation, where he is assigned. The incident marks the second time in less than a year that an officer became the target of anti-gay graffiti at a D.C. police facility." [Washington Blade]

Maybe he could ask Leah Daughty, the ordained homophobic bigot who runs the DNC for some help.

Then again, that might not be such a good idea. He should go to the community and raise a stink. That might improve his chances of not getting a beating from christian cops.

What do you expect? According to another article in the Washington Blade this week (URL: http://washingtonblade.com/the.....g_id=22018 ), that "Police and the United States Attorney’s office have said name-calling itself is not a crime" even though verbal abuse is clearly called out in the DC The Bias-Related Crime Act of 1989.

Per the MPD's own website: A hate crime is a crime that is committed against a person because of prejudice or bias. Victims of hate crimes are singled out simply because of their perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, family responsibility, physical handicap, matriculation, or political affiliation.

Examples of hate crimes include:

Physical attack
Destruction of property
Cross burnings
Arson
Vandalism
Telephone harassment
Painting swastikas and other hate symbols
Use of racial slurs
Cemetery desecration
Verbal abuse
Firebombing of residences, businesses, and churches

sigh…. and i thought the MPD was doing so well. in high school I was always so proud that they had a task force whose primary job was to gain the trust of at risk gay teens and try to prevent some of the absurd number of crimes in that community – both as victims and perpetrators. granted it was a task force of two or three, but still, given the amount of crap on the department's plate, shockingly cool.
