The so-called National Organization for Marriage has unsuccessfully challenged campaign finance disclosure laws in Maine, Minnesota, New York, California, Rhode Island, and Iowa. And in every case they still have not disclosed so much as a single name. Why? Because the court rulings don’t really matter since they offer no criminal penalty for non-compliance as of yet.
So we can safely bet that NOM will continue to flout these laws until after the 2012 elections have passed, because revealing the names of their donors only ensures that the LGBT media will analyze their donors to expose their business associations and anti-gay pasts. NOM likes to pretend that they’re protecting their ‘principled supporters of conscience’ from violent gay bullies. But really they’re just protecting themselves because publishing their bully financiers would further discredit their already crumbling efforts.

The lawsuit winners should be accusing NOM of contempt of court for failure to comply with the various court’s orders.
The court will order NOM to appear to explain their noncompliance, fines and/or jail and/or hilarity to ensue.

Why is Queerty never mentioning the fact that there has been ample proof that NOM is a front group for the Mormon Church and that much of the funding comes from the Mormon church and possibly the Catholic Church.
The Old Queerty would have mentioned that. But the Old Queerty also announced that the Mormon church tried to buy them off to stop running stories about them.
Has the new Queerty been bought off or do they just think it’s ok that a gigantic multi billion dollar religion in America is systematically working behind the scenes to deny us our rights and avoiding U.S. tax laws by using NOM as a front?
As for NOM, the courts need to give criminal penalties immediately.

Though, Anonymous is too scattered and disparate to be able to cause much damage. One of the splinter groups like LulzSec or the GNAA, perhaps, but not Anonymous as a whole. A unified raid hasn’t happened since 2008.

NOM just lost in District Court in Maine, on Feb 21, 2011. I haven’t seen (maybe I missed it) the appeal of that Maine decision. They lost the appeal in Rhode Island on Aug 12, 2011. That was less than a month ago. There may be another appeal of the RI case to the Supreme Court. That would take most of another year, even if the SC does not accept the case. Then the next round of litigation can commence, over orders for specific enforcement of the previous decision.
At some point, judges will start issuing contempt citations. But for failure to obey an order, that only happens after all proper appeals of the the final order are exhausted. That could give them several more years before they have to actually disclose anything. I am sure they have planned what to do then. They may arrange for the records to be lost in a fire or flood, before then.
I do not expect any actual disclosure to be forthcoming, ever.
This is a side-show. I’m not sure how many rings this circus has — at least three. But I am sure this is not the main show. The main show continues in the center ring, with an act called DOMA.

I can’t see the point in a court issuing an order to compel NOM to disclose its donor list if there are no criminal penalties for noncompliance. NOM has appealed every order which seems to be blocking disclosure. If these appeals are upheld by republican judges, then forget about it, NOM will get away with nondisclosure which will make this sort of court order frivolous and meaningless. Now if only Anonymous could hack NOM’s data base it would blow the appeals out of the water.
