Oh fun, a flyer left in the doors of D.C. residents from humanitarian group the National Organization for Marriage. Notes Right Wing Watch: “It will be interesting to see whether and how NOM reports this spending to DC campaign authorities. Because unlike a lot of NOM’s anti-marriage-equality messaging, this flyer is making a direct electoral appeal, urging voters to vote against Mayor Adrian Fenty, Congressional Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, and councilmembers who supported equality.” It will be the same way NOM reports its spending in every other jurisdiction: By not doing it.

Since NOM is so concerned about Washington DC’s citizens ability to vote, will they be campaigning for this Majority Democratic City to get a voting representative in Congress? Oh…didn’t think so.

Marriage is the “societal glue that binds men to women”? Is it just me, or does that sound like some creepy code-word for re-institutionalizing arranged marriages? Mariage, also, does not ensure anything when Children come into the equation! They are demonstrably using emotive terms to try and weaken one’s rational resolve. I really hope someone directly refutes this with academic rigor!
Notice, also, how they refuse to mention that the final decision against allowing such a vote was the city’s charter, which contained a human rights/ equal protections provision that also guaranteed the protection of Gay citizens, as well! Always like NOM to never let a little thing like pre-existing protections and laws get in the way of trying to stir up some animus and shape the US into a theocracy!
NOM’s understanding of the Constitution is also pathetic. The reason why we HAVE one is to protect minorities from the tyranny of the majority, and they refuse to abide by that. The Constitution puts limits and provisions on what we can, or should, be able to vote upon. This crap has been boiling for decades, according to Southern Poverty Law:
