The National Organization for (Divine, Divorce-Proof, Heterosexual) Marriage is alleging that the Human Rights Campaign “stole” confidential documents from the IRS with the help of a traitorous “criminal” whistleblower.
How dare that whistleblower leak damning information about NOM’s race-baiting tactics? How dare HRC expose their repugnant plans to set minorities against each another and to recruit dumb celebrities! And who at the IRS can NOM yell at?

NOM is upset that someone leaked their Form 990 Schedule B from 2008. This is the document that showed the roundabout way that Mitt Romney donated $10,000 to them in 2008. NOM’s racial strategy was revealed through documents that were legally unsealed as part of their ongoing campaign finance investigation in Maine. It pains me that Queerty would try to pass this post off as even halfway coherent.

First, any IRS non profit has to make their tax records public upon demand. If NOM is a non profit, they don’t have a leg to stand on.
Second, they have said that there is nothing embarassing or wrong in the memo — that it wasn’t race baiting afterall. So if they didn’t do anything wrong or unethical, what’s the problem?

Frankly I think they have an internal leak – an INTENTIONAL internal leak. Putting out something that would stir things up a bit since they haven’t been getting much press (or revenue) lately. Then, once it’s out there, they could cry foul and claim they are the victims. Underhanded people do this all the time – sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but you never know until you try.

The memos and other records that were released by the court two weeks ago were procured by proper means, or the court would not have released them.
This nonsense about a tax return being “leaked” is just another attempt by NOM to change the subject. They want to play the victim….
I am looking forward to the day when a court (finally) imposes contempt-of-court sanctions on NOM, demanding full accounting of all donations, and holding the assets and officers of NOM until that accounting is provided and audited.

1. How much they pay their staff, particularly their management
2. Some information about how they allocated the money they have.
Any organized opposition to NOM would want to know what fraction of the money they take in goes to anti-gay activities. Some non-profits spend a good portion of the money they take in on fund raising, and if donors find out that this amount is a high fraction of the total, they get angry and stop giving.

First of all, they weren’t just targeting blacks, they were also targeting the Hispanic community. Secondly, it is race baiting considering the fact that you can not accurately say that all Black Americans are homophobic, idiot. It makes me sad to see mainstream queers lead around through their emotions. Marraige is the weakest issue we have. We are much stronger on civil unions and enda, which should be our top priorities. Brown should be more concerned with his own criminal behavior. Trying to hide NOM’s unethical behavior from various states is what got them into this (well-deserved) mess. @randy: That is correct. It’s a 501c4 nonprofit. I used to work for a 501c3 nonprofit and our 990s were always available to the public upon demand with the required donor list attached which is what this is realy about. Brown is petrified that the donor list will now become officially public which might make donors wary about giving them any more big bucks.
