Harry Wieder, the New York LGBT activist and self-described “disabled, gay, Jewish, leftist, middle aged dwarf who ambulates with crutches,” died last night when a taxi cab struck him while he was crossing the street after leaving a community board meeting. He was 57. Michael Peterelis, an activist friend of Wieder’s from their ACT UP days, offers this heartfelt obituary. [Gothamist, NYP]
