It’s not enough that John Dunleavy, chairman of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade won’t let gay Irish groups march. He has to go down the road of Sen. Rick Santorum (he who likened gays to dogfuckers) and start making insulting, homophobic comparisons.
In a recent interview, Dunleavy made clear his shaky powers of reasoning:
If an Israeli group wants to march in New York, do you allow Neo-Nazis into their parade? If African Americans are marching in Harlem, do they have to let the Ku Klux Klan into their parade? … People have rights. If we let the [Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization] in, is it the Irish Prostitute Association next?
We are not aware that there is an Irish Prostitution Assocation in New York City, but it’s probably a good idea. And that would be a labor union anyway, Mr. Dunleavy.
