Andrew Sullivan, who loves pot so much he can’t resist smoking it on federal property, has not even blogged yet about the Justice Department’s new federal guidelines for marijuana. Because he’s probably high right now!
What new guidelines? Namely, that medical smokers and their suppliers should be left alone! Going after these folks is a waste of time, according to a three-page memo Obama’s legal team is about to release.
But here’s the requisite but: Any pot use that goes beyond state regulations will still be prosecuted. Which means all those pot shops in Los Angeles — and there are tons — should still fear federal raids if they’re operating for-profit shops. You know, because when drugs are used for health care, there should be no profit motive.
