  COUNTDOWN TO REPEAL

Of Course They Played Lady Gaga Right After DADT Got Repealed

The Bilerico Project’s Bil Browning attended a DADT repeal party in Washington DC last night. And of course, after the stroke of midnight killed the anti-gay law, the party DJ began spinning Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory.” It’s not disappointing, just totally predictable. Luckily the music selection isn’t what mattered most from Browning’s point of view:

“I watched the soldiers around me suddenly grinning from ear to ear and dancing madly with each other, it hit me how much it must mean to finally be able to be honest about your life. The service members’ joy was palpable as they danced and sang along to Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory” in a blur of camo, dogtags, and tears. DADT was finally dead. They were free of the lies and mandated hiding.

OK, OK, OK… if we were there, we totally would’ve been dancing and singing along too. In the face of such a historic moment as this, all gays and lesbians should be able to set aside their strong feelings about Lady Gaga and just celebrate the moment, knowing that full equality just took a huge step forward.

Good lord, Queerty, I may need to just stick to Towleroad and Homorazzi for my gaynews, and take your fabulous selves off the Favorites: Apparently you can’t just celebrate the historic end of DADT, you have to somehow contort the story to express your distaste for Lady Gaga of all things: “In the face of such a historic moment as this, all gays and lesbians should be able to set aside their strong feelings about Lady Gaga and just celebrate the moment”…exactly, sunshines! STFU about Gaga, and just say Yay for our servicepeople!

What’s wrong with playing Lady Gaga? Should they have celebrated with John Philip Sousa? Good grief, the self-immolation is so strong on this site that you can practically smell the petroleum.

Well I was in Dallas this weekend and unexpectedly went to the gay pride parade there. First of all, it was great. Huge crowds, with friendly, diverse, and goodlooking people…but I could honestly live without ever hearing that “Born This Way” song again. I must’ve heard it 100 times Not only is it a lame song, now that gays have adopted it, I guess I’ll have to hear it forever….God I hope not.

P.S Who knew Dallas had one of the most beautiful gayborhoods I’ve ever seen.

Of all the things to nit-pick about, seriously? This is even worse than your stupid douche of the week post. Considering over the past year, Gaga was probably one of the most vocal celeb in support of LGBT rights, I see no reason why they shouldn’t play her song.

Maybe you can give us a list of songs that would have been more appropriate or not “predictable”? Personally, I don’t think playing Edge of Glory was predictable, now if they’d played BTW, then I might have agreed.

Also I’m starting to think you’re just trolling now with your snips at Gaga. You know it generates reactions and comments.

Never under-estimate the self-stereotyping of gay people. Whenever there’s a song to be played, you can guarantee they will turn to the most kitschy, campy, crappy piece of music that is out there.

The National Anthem would have been a better choice.

I hate Barack Obama but, I hate George Bush more. If I had it my way, I would have the president of Nigeria assasinated for taking all of the money from Africa. I dare any of these pieces of shit to come to Portland. Go to Youtube and look up my video Interrogation America. I play Christopher Pearl.
