Oklahoma GOP House Members Make Gay Pastor's Prayer Off the Record

scottsbiopic"In an unusual move in the [Oklahoma] state House of Representatives a group of Republicans tried to exclude a gay pastor's prayer from becoming a part of the House record. The Rev. Scott Jones [pictured] offered the daily prayer yesterday after introducing several people including a man he called his "loving partner and fiance, Michael." When Democratic Rep. Al McAffrey asked to make the prayer part of the House record Republican Rep. John Wright objected and called for a vote. The House then voted 64-20 to include the prayer in the official record. Wright said later he didn't agree with comments made by Jones and says his actions were motivated by "the faith." McAffrey says he [sic] sure the negative votes were due to Jones and most of his congregation being gay." [AP]

I was having a debate with a co-worker the other day, mostly friendly, I think – and while I'm hardly giving Democrats a pass for all their nonsense – why is this anti Gay stuff almost always initiated by Rethuglicans? Or am I mistaken?????

(the co-worker is (surprise) most Republican but made the claim both parties are equally no good which I would say the Democrats are by far the lesser of two evils but essentially corrupt as well.)

@Jaroslaw: That's pretty much right. Way too many idealistic queer fools act like the Dems are some major progressive movement and get all uppity/stupid when reality strikes. That party is NOT ours!

Wright seems rather arrogant "the faith" as if everyone in Oklahoma was in agreement, honestly – though can't say I'm really all that surprised.

Re: Wright…

There's no such nonsense as "The Faith". You don't have faith in religious doctrine, you have faith in God. Coming from a scoundrel like Wright, it's no surprise that these 20 so-called "Christians" are religious frauds.

Having lived in Oklahoma for about 3 1/2 years this does not really surprise me that much(especially since the state is run by the Baptists)despite what most Okies would have you believe they are still a bunch of redneck, beer guzzling, truck driving, rifle toting geeks.
What does surprise me is that the State House actually let a gay person in the door much less deliver a prayer for a House session!? My god what is this world coming to?! LOL!

Cruiser – that is actually what I was thinking and forgot to say it. How did the Gay pastor get in there in the first place! Maybe there is a tiny bit of progress after all?

Dem Al McAffrey is an openly gay elected representative, so .. we are making progress here in Oklahoma.

teh title of the article is deceptive.
The vote to keep the prayer out of the record was defeated by a 3 to 1 margin.
yes.. there were 20 bigots, but the other 64 voted to keep it in
