Whew! You had me worried!

I love Herbert too. And "Family Guy" may be a second-rate version of "The Simpsons" to a lot of people, but the show has balls, which is more than I can say for most of the banal crap on TV. And when it gets things right, it can't be beat. I'm still laughing at Peter Griffin's acoustic version of "Rock Lobster" and the amazing tribute to "Shipoopi" from "The Music Man" and, of course, Stewie and Brian's wonderful "Road to Rhode Island". Oh, and the "FCC Song".

As far as wildly outrageous gay references go, "Family Guy" is great, but doesn't compare to "Drawn Together" at all. They go gay with almost every joke, and it's usually roll on the floor funny.

Love, love, love Herbert. Not sure who voices him, but he's a great singer too. That whistle – kills me every time.

The stellar quality of 'Family Guy's' musical numbers instantly elevate it above any other animated show on network tv, yes, even the Simpsons.

Herbert is not supposed to represent gay men. He's a pedophile. Family guy has had gay characters on it previously. Indeed, the lead character, Peter Griffin, had sex with former president Bill Clinton on the show as an act of revenge after his Peter's wife rode the Clenis. Peter remarked of Bill, "You're good! You're really good!" as they relaxed after their smokin' hot sex.

family guy sucks. rehashing old stereotypes and making 70's pop culture references is not edgy. in fact i think the show puts a kind of conservative message out there under the guise of being "politically incorrect" (unlike the simpsons, the show is hugely unsuccessful at satire), tho the shows biggest offense is not being funny. the old pedophile character is the same joke over and over again. it's boring.

No AIDS song will beat the Rent spoof in Team America ("Everyone has AIDS/The niggers and the gays …") for sheer, over-the-top insult humor. Top THAT, Family Guy!

Mr C – I've lost plenty of friends and loved ones to AIDS. Trust me, it was funny. It was making fun of people who are hypocritical about the disease. Satire should be hard-hitting to work.

Psych is right. I was ready to write a rant until I realized it was a fake out. I love the weirdness and incongruent references. Dom is right about the music. I fell in love with Peter a little when he launched into Rock Lobster.

I essentially agree with the pro-Family Guy take on this, but just to play devil's advocate, there are many more morons watching Family Guy than there are cool queer people, and some of them will decide the harmless old gay guy at work, down the block, at the family reunion, etc., is Herbert and think it's super fun to taunt him with lame FG references. Censorship is always wrong though.
