Yesterday, while Ellen DeGeneres was hosting her own television show, she was also appearing — at the same, in some markets! — on Oprah, promoting her O magazine cover. But that wasn’t the only thing she was doing: She was revealing how she and Portia de Rossi fell in love. Awww!
If you’re the type who gets gushy over love stories, you’ll want to watch the below clip. If you hate seeing other people’s happiness, skip it. But as de Rossi acknowledges, while it may have been love at first sight, a little thing called “Hollywood’s closet” got in the way. In the beginning.

I wonder if Mama O was sitting thinking, “Dayum, I wish I could share how Gail and I fell in love!”

I admire Ellen for her bravery, but I find her to be so annoying these days.

Ooh look, its the same people to listen to again.

Ellen is no better than dirty old men who date women significantly younger than them and then toss them. Anne Heche, Alexandra Hedison who she cheated on and now Portia. Wait till Portia hits 40 and see how long it is before Ellen trades her in.

@ Tylertime #4: Anne Heche dumped Ellen, and in a really humiliating way, too. Ellen’s turned into something of a house gay these days, but equating her with a “dirty old man” is way out of line. I don’t think Portia is that much younger than she is anyway.

It was a really sweet and magical show. Oprah was gracious, Ellen was charming, and the montage of the wedding was truly beautiful.

Ellen and Portia are so sweet together. I wish them all the best.

Im happy Ellen and Portia are happy, but they really shouldnt make themselves poster children for gay-couple bliss. Ellen did that with Anne Heche and look how that turned out. I remember they were giving interviews about how happy they were just weeks before splitting–when clearly there wouldve been trouble in the relationship already–and it felt really fraudulent.
Just because a star like Ellen has taken a strong stand for LGBT rights doesnt mean she’s above manipulating press coverage the same way a hetero star would. In general, you cant take what celebrities say about their personal lives at face value, no matter who they are.

Oprah does safe stuff like lesbian weddings. Where are the gay male weddings? She’s a bit of a hypocrite.

love these two! the wedding was soo beautiful! they give me hope!

Where are the gay male weddings?
Ellen and Portia are on there because they are celebrities and Ellen had launched a major campaign to be on the cover of O Magazine. They have also been very open and sharing with the public all along about their wedding.
I don’t see any comparable gay male celebrity married couples around. David Hyde Pierce married his partner, but the partner isn’t a celeb, there’s no sign they are trying to get on Oprah, and they’ve been private about their wedding and have only shared the bare fact that it happened.

Women tend to exploit greater acceptance of female homosexuality than male homosexuality. I see this in the Ellen wedding.

They are a very sweet couple. I do not understand the bashing and distain over their happiness. I am pleased that they are public about their relationship. I think it is helpful for the education of the public in general to see a gay relationship normalized. It is encouraging to see the closet emptying of celebraties who are now wanting to live truthful lives. I pray for the day when all gay couples are able to marry. It is a civil right for which they have been denied for too long. And they deserve for their unions to be federally recognized.

@ Jason
They are trying to increase tolerance and the public comfort level with gay/lesbian couples and gay/lesbian marriage. Ellen’s (at the time attacked and career damaging) coming out years ago was part of making America more accepting than before of lesbian couples, so if anyone deserves to enjoy some of the results of that it would be her. Opening up their private life like that is still putting themselves on the line and a sacrifice of privacy for her and Portia, though.

When they moved Ellen against Oprah in the New York market, it was a no-brainer! Poor Oprah!
