Oscar Pistorius Dropped From South Africa’s “It Gets Better” Campaign

Oscar_PistoriusAfter allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend last week, paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius has been dropped from South Africa’s “It Gets Better” campaign.

Th campaign, headed by postgraduate student Andrew Barry and modeled after the American version created by Dan Savage, is to be launched on February 20 at the Cape Town Holocaust Centre.

In his video, which will no longer be included in the campaign, Pistorius said, “Just remember that you’re special. You don’t have to worry. You don’t have to change. Take a deep breath and remember ‘It will get better’.”

The 26-year-old will face a pre-mediated murder charge — the most serious under South African law — in the death of his girlfriend, 29-year-old model Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistoius claims her death was accidental, having shot her three times though a locked bathroom door, mistaking her for an intruder. Steenkamp’s funeral is today, where hundreds are expected to attend.
