Derren Brown is a British illusionist and hypnotist who’s made a name for himself by having an uncanny ability to cut through the chatter to decipher alarmingly personal details from his audience.
He also happens to be gay, a fact which one homophobic Twitter follower, @HossamAlyyy, has only just become aware of.
He fired off a series of nasty Tweets to Brown, calling him a “sick human being” and a “fuckin faggot” among other uninspired insults.

Hossam has deleted his original Tweets, but that hasn’t stopped people from chiming in.
“I hope you come to terms with your sexuality soon. Then you’ll stop being such an angry little child,” one user writes to him. Other colorful commentaries include, “Hahaha you pathetic littel keyboard warrior. Homophobic abuse then delete your tweets when you’re put down. COWARD!,” and the more succinct, “wanker.”

@jwtraveler: For any individual who invest so much emotion onto an issue only tell us there’s a vested interest in it. And this interest is of two things. Either for political gain because of power and money or self hatred. The self hatred is a coward act of self denial. The inability to accept oneself yet projecting onto others as a way of escapism.

There have been countless studies demonstrating that homophobia is indeed the outward projection of ones own inner self loathing homosexual. They can deny it all they want and they can have all their ex-gay therapy clinics all they want (ladybird Bauchman anyone) but it will never change the facts. I recall reading a story about violent attacks on gays back in the nineties that said that (Paraphrased)
“The more aggressive an attack on gays are, the more it is a sign that the aggressor is hiding his own gay desires, Conscious or unconscious”.

If it isn’t that they are closeted… take it from this straight female ally – they are just pissed that no one will f them.
Among my friends, nothing shuts down the libido more that some a-hole so insecure about his own sexuality that he must be an insecure douchebag towards gay guys.
(conversely… a straight guy who is so freaking secure in his self that he has no problem with being friends with gay guys, just raise an eyebrow at being asked “are you gay”?, and is just simply for lgbtq equality… his “hot” rating goes way up.)

Ah, this is one reason why I love the gay sites. Here we can make fun of a homophobe who has an obviously Muslim name (eek!), but no pompous Ben Affleck-style twit pops up here to shriek that we’re all supposedly “r@cists.” Just try that on Salon, HuffPo, or (omg!) Alternet – you’ll hear the contrived outrage from Berkeley to Mecca. Another reason I love Bill Maher too!
