We continually monitor the words in our dictionaries, paying particular [attention] to those words whose usage is shifting, so yes, this will happen with marriage…We are constantly monitoring usage in this area in order to consider what revisions and updates we may need to make. It’s worth pointing out that, as the OED is distinct from other dictionaries in being a historical record of the language, meanings of the past will remain, even while language changes and new ones are added.”

What! You mean the world and humanity continue to change and evolve and there’s not way to stop it because that is their nature!
Well, I guess if you’re a person that hates change and evolution, then reality must suck for you.

Check out Webster’s backhanded inclusiveness:
Definition of MARRIAGE

a (1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage

As any self-respecting American usage Nazi should be, I’m a Merriam-Webster kinda guy. Lest we forget, the Scripps National Spelling Bee uses Merriam-Webster. You read correctly, and I say again – the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Boom.

Having said that, wtf is with MW’s definition of marriage? Not feeling it.
SnakeyJ
@jeff4justice: Remember, the MW dictionary is a US publication and the definition was probably written before gay marriage was legally allowed in most states. So technically it’s correct. I’m sure the definition will change as more states & eventually the whole country adopts gay marriage.

HELLO…who cares what is written in a DICKtionary? all they are is a bunch of words CREATED by someone with the soul purpose to feel like they mean somethin’…like that old comic book THE BIBLE!
they are just WORDS…NOT THE LAW of the land people!
Dakotahgeo
@krystalkleer: “… with the soul purpose….” The proper word is “sole,” you pompous Kiddie Kollege dropout! When you get out of diapers and your mommy’s basement, enroll in an accredited elementary school program!
