But still, Christian parents turn to this man to tell them how to interact with their kids, as they did on yesterday’s The 700 Club. On his tip sheet for parents dealing with a gay son? Tell the boy the Bible says he’s an abomination, but you’ll love him any way.

From an expose in The Nation: In 1994 he made an emotional plea on The 700 Club for cash donations to Operation Blessing to support airlifts of refugees from the Rwandan civil war to Zaire (now Congo). Reporter Bill Sizemore of The Virginian Pilot later discovered that Operation Blessing’s planes were transporting diamond-mining equipment for the African Development Corporation, a Robertson-owned venture initiated with the cooperation of Zaire’s then-dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.
After a lengthy investigation, Virginia’s Office of Consumer Affairs determined that Robertson “willfully induced contributions from the public through the use of misleading statements and other implications.” Yet when the office called for legal action against Robertson in 1999, Virginia Attorney General Mark Earley, a Republican, intervened with his own report, agreeing that Robertson had made deceptive appeals but overruling the recommendation for his prosecution. Two years earlier, while Virginia’s investigation was gathering steam, Robertson donated $35,000 to Earley’s campaign–Earley’s largest contribution. With Earley’s report came a sense of vindication. “From the very beginning,” Robertson claimed, “we were trying to provide help and assistance to those who were facing disease and death in the war-torn, chaotic nation of Zaire.”

I grew up in a family deeply entrenched in the evangelical church; they hung on every word of TV-preacher douchebags like Robertson. If there really is a god, and there really is a judgment day…I hope I get to be present when Robertson is formally condemned for the pain he caused in the lives of his followers’ gay children. For the families he helped divide and fracture, and the deaths he caused for those gay kids who just couldn’t take it anymore.
Seriously…I want to see the look on his face when he isn’t congratulated, and then sent down to see the god he’s really been working for his whole life.

Pat Robertson is a hateful dirty bastard. Yesterday I had a weird Pat moment-I was trying to watch “Liza With A Z” on our Comcast ch. 170 and my cable box kept jumping to ch. 17, carrying what else-Pat and the “700 Club”. I’d turn back to Liza and the damn thing would jump back to Pat. It did this 6 or so times-then time 7 a tornado warning came on. Now-not only does that creep ruin gay people’s lives-but also an airing of Liza! After the tornado warning all the channel changing stopped. Now just if a tornado would stop Pat!
