(Perceptive) Words…

“I think the Republican Party is too smart to call Barack Obama ‘black’ in a sense that it would be a negative. But you can take something about his life, which I noticed they did at the Republican Convention – a ‘community organizer.’ They kept saying it, they kept laughing. I think where there are overtones is when there are uses of language that are designed to inhibit other people’s progress with a subtle reference to their race.” – New York Governor David Paterson on the GOP’s Barack Obama attacks. I don’t think Obama is going to lose, because even if you give McCain Ohio and Virginia Obama wins in the electoral college.

Intelligent, perceptive, and reasoned criticism along with calling the Republicans on every underhanded tactic will cement a Democratic victory.

I think the Republican use of the race card, subtely or not, will increase in direct proportion to the proximity of election day and the impending obviousness of Obama’s electoral college–where it counts–victory.

Republicans are trying to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, and they will try anything to do so (see Palin).

In my opinion, the Republicans deserve to lose. Bush has for sure been the worst president ever.

Let’s hope the Obama campaign keeps up the good work. There is no doubt that Obama/Biden is better for all Americans. And that’s the key difference in my opinion. The Republicans aren’t concerned about all Americans. Remember when Bush said if “my people” come out and vote, I’ll win.”

One last thing, does anyone who reads this particular blog want a potential President Palin
appointing a Supreme Court justice?

“Community organizer” a “subtle reference to race”? Yeah, so subtle I don’t get it at all. That doesn’t fit so well with the Republicans-as-stupid meme, either. If we need a “brilliant” and “perceptive” Democrat to suss out these sinister implications, they’re not going to be that effective at influencing dumb Republicans, are they?

Rather have her than an Obama appointing a James Meeks, Leah daugherty or Donna Brazile to the supreme court. Good for other groups, horrible for GLBT people. Jamaica would seem as the Netherlands or Spain of the American continent compared to us.

Donna Brazile is an out lesbian. The rest of your assertion is too stupid for comment. Try harder.

Giovanni, well said, but really, don’t encourage him…

As for Patterson, he is a true and proven ally to gay people (a gentle affirmation).

As for the “community organizer” analysis, he is 100% correct, and I salute his courage for calling them out.

Funny how the racist power structure has this brilliant defense mechanism built in, where they can use racism to subvert, and then if they get called out on it, they cry: “race-baiting!!” Well, the tactic does have a liability: it only works with teh stupids.

racism is so ingrained in our society that it’s easy for some to deny it. but just like westmoreland’s “uppity” comments, there are ways to talk about race without explicitly saying – “don’t trust this guy; he’s black.”

a room full of white republicans laughing off the work of a “community organizer’ (which connotes the inner city and minority) while praising a “pta mom” (which undoubtably references white suburbia) is indeed a smart, completely backhand, and i’m sure calculated way of raising the issue of race.

patterson is right on, and he’s not the only one picking up on this bullshit.
