PHOTOS: 300 Mormons Joined Utah Pride And Lightning Didn’t Strike Anyone!

More than 300 members of the Church of Latter Day Saints joined in the festivities at the Utah Gay Pride Parade in downtown Salt Lake City on Sunday, as thousands of marchers cheered them on. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the faithful—organized by a group called Mormons Building Bridges—came dressed in their Sunday best, “included fathers carrying their children on their shoulders and mothers pushing strollers.” One carried a sign with a reference to John 4:8, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Also on hand were Grand Marshal Dustin Lance Black; Frenchie Davis and Prince Poppycock who performed later at the Pride Festival, Air Force officer Valerie Larabee and local politicians like State Senator Ben McAdams.

Erika Munson, who founded Mormons Building Bridges, told the Tribune “We want to inspire other Mormons at the local level to do things for their LGBT brothers and sisters.”
