Everybody who is anybody is doing it. No, not that. Well, probably that too, but with all the landmark decisions of late in regards to our nuptials, gay marriage (or simply marriage as we like to call it) is getting the celebrity treatment. We’re not just talking about all those allies who back our equal rights by voicing support for our love and commitment, but the straight allies who actually go above and beyond and actually officiate our weddings. When we reported that Benedict Cumberbatch (pictured above) missed Comic-Con last week to join two pals in wedded bliss last weekend, we remembered some other celebrities who have taken the dive. Here are some of our celeb-allies who have stepped up to the plate — and the altar — to make honest men and women of us.
Conan O’Brien
The late-night host officiated the wedding of his show’s costume designer Scott Cronick and his partner David Gorshein live on the air to coincide with the one-year anniversary of his show on TBS.
Fran Drescher
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
The ceremony took place at XL Nightclub in New York City and was part of a contest promoted by TVLand (on which Drescher’s show Happily Divorced airs). The winning couple, Tom and Russell, had been together for 20 years.
Uber-ally Griffin officiated the renewal of vows for a gay couple plucked directly from her Kathy audience on Bravo. Tim and Reuben had been together 20 years.
Kevin Smith
Honorary bear, Smith, officiated a couple’s hockey-themed ceremony in 2011. The couple wore hockey jerseys; Smith a referee’s stripes.
Ordained minister Gaga married her yoga instructor friend and her partner in NYC after marriage equality passed in the state.
Jason Segel
Segel may not have his own talk show, but that didn’t stop the ally from officiating the wedding of Abbe Thorner and Jason Wood on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2010.
Tori Spelling
Reverend Tori Spelling was ordained online, and she later married a couple at her B&B. Snippets of the ceremony aired on Tori & Dean: Inn Love.
Andy
Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go’s became an ordained minister specifically to officiate GLBT marriages. She, and the rest of the band, have long been allies and friends of the community.

Hell-oooo! Keeper of Thy Gems, Iowa’s own hip hop legend Leslie Hall.

Benedict Cumberbatch didn’t legally marry anybody in Ibiza. The couple had already entered into a civil partnership in the UK before flying there. He’s not a licensed registrar and Spain doesn’t permit foreigners to marry two non-Spanish residents.

Oh. And here’s a link to her “Weddings in Iowa by Leslie” page.

I see that options for your wedding include karaoke, Dairy Queen Cake, “goat frolucking,” illegal fireworks display, and laser tag.
Top that, Tori Spelling.

RESEARCH FAIL, QUEERTY (not that I’m surprised).
Gaga has stated routinely that she’s bisexual. I’m glad to see that she’s recognized, but NOT that you are invalidating her own stated orientation! How hard would you wail if I said none of y’all are gay, it’s just a choice or in your head–OH WAIT, THE EX-GAY MOVEMENT DOES THAT. You know, those people you bash all the time?
Way to be hypocritical. Signed, a lesbian–unless you assume I’ve gotta be straight too.
