PHOTOS: Hard French Puts The “Art” In Party At SOMArts

The Hard French crew in San Francisco is a queer force to be reckoned with: For “Hard French Hearts Los Homos,” their Pride event on June 24,  the gang took over SOMArts Cultural Center, which was fortunately equipped with an open patio suitable for the kind of debauchery one finds at HF’s usual daytime haunt, El Rio.

With DJs spinning inside and out, punk-rock chicks, fey boys, drag dollies and everyone in-between grooved to soul singer Sugar Pie DeSanto, indie-electric darlings SSION and Bounce master BeyondaDoubt.

If you don’t know Sugar Pie, you should. As HF’s blog explains:

DeSanto, now 76 year old, recorded hits in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s that we regularly play at Hard French including “Soulful Dress,” “I Want To Know,” “I Don’t Wanna Fuss,” “Go-Go Power” and a pair of songs she recorded with her childhood friend Etta James, “Down In The Basement” and “Do I Make Myself Clear.” Speaking of Sugar Pie and Etta, the only thing we like more than the songs they recorded together is the fact that in the 50s they ran together in a San Francisco girl gang called the Lucky 20s!! Fierce!

It’s fitting HF took over SOMArts: Their parties are truly works of art.

      /sigh

more ample demonstration that no one at Queerty would recognize Art if it bit them in the ass.

@MikeE: more ample demonstration that MikeE does not recognize the meaning of sarcasm.
