PHOTOS: LA Bartenders Strip For A Good Cause With Bad Gurl Willam Belli

IMG_3517

PHOTOS: This past weekend, patrons at LA’s famed The Abbey Food and Bar were treated to a night of not-so-professional bar stripping for a good cause. As they opened their wallets and sipped down cocktails, former Drag Race contestant Willam Belli took to the stage to act as hostess for a bartender auction that would benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). The bartenders stripped, showed off their abs, and charmed the crowd as they were auctioned off for dates with their highest bidder. Overall, the event raised $75,00o for APLA in just two hours. Jim Poole was the one with the highest bid of $22,000. Check out some pics from the event below.

WeHo bars still aren’t hiring anything other than white or white-looking Latin bartenders.

But let’s boycott Russia for “hate”.

looks like an incredible turn out and 75 grand is… awesome. wow. it looked like it was a great event by some great guys. congrats.

and to everyone else… look, BrandoPolo was able to find the letters on the keyboard in order to type. i’m sure that was a tremendous effort for him. you can’t expect him to make a disconnected random comment AND make a point at the same time. there are moments where we expect too much from those that may not have the associative properties of social understanding that we enjoy.

his use of quotation marks not withstanding, i personally think he deserves a cookie.

      I SAID YOU DESERVE A COOKIE…

oh nevermind, he’s wandered off to another post…

@MikeE: @Bozen: Why is it that gay white supremecists always want to shut up those of us who point out the hypocritical bigotry of the gay community?

It’s unfortunate that liberty and equality are unimportant to you, but that’s a personal problem. So until the gay community stops resembling the modern day KKK, no I won’t shut up about the prejudice of self-absorbed asshats like you.

Thank for calling me God, though.

Can we please not make this about race and focus on the fact that the majority of those guys are straight and exploiting the gay community?
Where are the gay bartenders supposed to work if not at gay bars?

Some people must have a pretty pathetic life if all they have time to do is worry about who’s being hired at a bar. Use that negative energy for GOOD and DO SOMETHING productive with your life. I mean seriously! Not that I believe you, but the “fact” that they hire who they want to hire really should have no affect on you whatsoever. Did you apply for a job and not get hired? Perhaps there’s a reason you didn’t get hired since you’re making it such a big deal here. Maybe it’s YOU that is the problem and not the color of your skin that you’ve MADE into a problem. Perhaps it’s also your attitude surrounding your accusations that I’m certain are not due to any actions on your part to prove in any sort of way. Instead, you just like to spout off at the mouth making false accusations. If you don’t like their bartenders then don’t go to those bars. It’s that simple.

Actually, it’s not about race AT ALL… except to the person who seems to ONLY see race. And I apologize for feeding the hooded troll.

@Katbox (and i’m not being factious, I’m legitimately wanting your opinion) How would you constitute this as “exploiting” the gay community?

I ask because I cannot confirm that all of the bartenders are straight… but if they are, it seems that for this event they are damn good sports, and raised a considerable amount of money for a local AIDS charity. I think that’s what we want from our straight counterparts, isn’t it?

To answer your last question, I know a few gay bartenders that work at straight bars/clubs. When you look at it as a job and not a venue for hooking up, it’s actually preferable. Flirting can often be part of the job so some people find it better to work where they can flirt freely where it honestly isn’t going anywhere. That is what I have been told. So I guess it works the same way with straight bartenders working at gay bars.

@DobieOwner: It’s amazing the knots bigots will twist themselves into to justify segregation and discrimination against others when they are the first to screech and sqwak when it negatively affects them. But good to know that you think the US Army should have been allowed to “hire who they want to” and thus not hire gays. If the gays don’t like Russia’s anti-gay policies, Chick-fil-A’s anti-gay policies, they should just “shut up” and not go to Russia or Chick-fil-A, right? They shouldn’t speak out against it and make it such a “big deal.” The fact that certain institutions have discriminatory policies against gays “really should have no affect” whatsoever.

Oh wait — in the gay community, discrmination is only bad when it negatively affects white gays. If the white gays are getting along, then we should just “shut up” about everybody else.

@DobieOwner: “I’d say there’s probably 0% chance that ANY of those guys are straight. It helps to comment on experiences you actually have rather than commenting from 2,000 miles away about places with which you have zero experience…pal.

@Jackhoffsky: Typical. Hooded white supremacists like you are generally unable to distinguish between a specific issue being about race and every issue being about race ONLY, which is obviously not the same thing except to dense people who are uncomfortable talking about race when appropriate because of their own racial prejudices.

I, too, am sorry that you got in over your head attempted to discuss an issue about which you do not care and upon which you have no authority to speak. So that makes two of us.

      I’m Mexican.

Actual Mexican. Not a (as you so crudely racially profiled) “white-looking Latin”

And in the 1st picture where everyone is clothed I noticed around 5 things about each of the guys before I get to skin color. Comment #1 you not only made a racist comment about my Mexican brothers who happen to be light-skinned or mixed, but compared a group of people RAISING MONEY FOR AN AIDS CHARITY to the homophobic gay bashing and torture in Russia.

And how many things did you notice about the first picture of a group of smiling nervous guys getting prepared about raising money for a local charity?

      ONE.

You have made it quite clear that a unnoticed racial issue in this context is more important than raising a considerable amount of money for a local AIDS charity. Whether right or wrong, the more you defend it, the more disproportional your indignation… at least in this setting.

Gay bars are going to hire bartenders that keep their clientelle interested. If that happens to be a white (Latino) straight male then that is who they will hire. A great deal of wealthy white men have no physical attraction to black men. In an era where the Supreme Court believes we have moved beyond overt racism and is position ing itself to remove AA, perhaps blacks should focus on getting jobs that actually matter instead of a lack of black bartenders in gay bars that cater to mostly white clients. BTW, if this bar only hired black bartenders, and any of us dared to speak against that, we would be labeled racist.

Few people ever want to see a short brown Mexican take his clothes off. Many will pay to see tall white blue eyed man do so – if he is physically fit. No one’s stopping you from opening a club that hires only short brown Mexicans.

@BrandoPolo: You are that enraged because you didn’t see photos of naked black or whatever men? You want to force people to put those up (I love men of all color, but I am not going to die if some of the types I like are not shown here)? Why? Is someone saying something negative about blacks and other people of color anywhere in the article? Is their racist imagery in those photos? I don’t see any. Perhaps the person who put these photos up has a preference. Perhaps the patrons at the bar have a preference. Is preference the same as Jim Crow? I am a gay male and only want to look at naked men in erotic imagery. Does that make me a misogynist? Please explain.

By the way, I see at least two men of color in the first pic and they don’t look white to me. They look tall and muscular and fit. Is that your idea of “white looking”? Because their skin tone is very rich and dark and beautiful, especially the demigod in the black tee.

@tdx3fan: Oh, so, if a restuarant wants to serve only white people or only straight people — to keep their customers happy — that’s perfectly fine huh?

What black people need to do is continue to ignore people like you who wish to justify Jim Crow at all costs. Trying to position yourself as a victim by inventing some hypothetical fantasy scenario that would never happen — a gay bar hiring only black bartenders — is comical. But leave it to a bigot to whine about something that hasn’t and won’t ever happened while defending the fact that The Abbey does have one (let alone ALL) black bartenders on staff.
