PHOTOS: Play Inspired By Tyler Clementi Tragedy Debuts In Chicago

The story of Tyler Clementi, who committed suicide in 2010 after his roommate filmed his romantic encounter with another man, has inspired the new play  Teddy Ferrara, now playing at at Chicago’s Goodman Theater.

Written by Pulitzer nominee Christopher Shinn, Ferrara tells the story of Gabe, a happily out college senior whose life is shaken by a campus tragedy that sparks national headlines.

Shinn was inspired by Clementi’s story, as well as his own past. “I thought a lot about committing suicide in high school and during my college years, and though I never really came close, I felt like I understood something about a psyche that wants to die,” he says.

Teddy Ferrara is now in previews and officially opens February 11.
