Paula Yates released her photo book, Rock Stars in their Underpants, in 1980, earning the strong approval of Andy Warhol.
He dubbed it “the greatest work of art in the last decade,” and whether or not he was joking, Yates’ collection does offer an unguarded glimpse at the more vulnerable sides of some rock icons.
Check out some of the shots below:

Bob Geldoff hubba hubba.
Sparks w/Jane Wiedlin’s “Cool Places” is a favorite of mine. Just silly fun.
I want to see Matt Johnson of The The in his panties. He’s so fine.

Wow! but why are they wearing underwears?
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
I preferred her followup book: “Rock Stars in their underwear with belts around their necks”

@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID:
She’s coming out with two additional books:
Rock Stars in their underwear with needles in their arms
Rock Stars in their underwear with their brains blown out

The Rolling Stones are famous for outrageous photos… Particularly one where they were in drag. Funny how the picture here only features four members of the group. I am not sure if Mick Taylor or Ron Wood would have been part of that.
Billy Budd
It is funny but not sexy.

Is this being reissued? Is this news how?

The Elton John pic. leaves me wanting to poke my eyes out with a stick.
Bob LaBlah
The only thing the pic with Elton John does is remind one of what “it” really is, and it has nothing to do with sex. The man can sing his ass off but other than that Elton goes to the end of the line.

@Tobi: I hear that. There is just no unseeing that is there.

I like tattoos, but there’s something refreshingly charming about these mostly ink-free lads.
This project needs an update!

@Glücklich: Highly unlikely, since she’s been dead for years.
