I don’t think you can ever reproduce the past. The past isn’t just a look, it’s a culture. The way men looked back then reflects the contemporary culture of the time. By culture, I mean songs, movies, the fashion designers of the time, the position of homosexuality in society, the role of women, the role of men….etc etc etc. You can’t put a mustache on a man and say “oh, this is 70′s”.
The unique set of circumstances in the culture of the 70′s cannot be reproduced and, therefore, it’s pointless trying to do it.

Another thing I should say is that Speedo-like swimsuits on men were popular back in the 1930′s. Go and look at beach photos from 1930′s America – you’ll be surprised as to the number of men who wore Speedo-like swimsuits. By Speedo-like, I mean brief and sexy.
Of course, Speedo did not exist as a brand back then but the cut and size of the swimsuit was very similar to what is considered to be the Speedo today.
Funnily enough, it seems that men in America have gone backwards since that time. Nowadays, most young American men at the beach wear these big, baggy shorts that come to the knees. It suggests that modern American men are afraid of looking sexy at the beach, unlike back in the 1930′s.

you do know that “moustache” does not equal 70s, right?
none of these photos could be mistaken for pics taken then.
this guy would have looked SO out of place in the 70s, and for a number of reasons.
the chin hair is VERY “now”. guys didn’t do that back then.
the ultra-ripped abs? that sort of thing was so incredibly rare in the 70s, pretty much only competing bodybuilders had them.
