PHOTOS: Top Brazilian Diver Ian Matos Is The Latest Olympian To Come Out

Make room, Tom Daley. Top Brazilian diver Ian Matos just came out in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper Correio.

“From a young age, I knew I was gay, but it was here that I got to live my sexuality,” Matos told the paper.

Matos is originally from Pennsylvania. He moved to Brazil when he was 17 to focus on his diving career.

Matos became Brazil’s 3-meter champion last year. A friend advised him not to come out publicly until after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero, but Matos said he was inspired to do so sooner after learning of Tom Daley‘s story.

Congrats, Mr. Matos. We’ll see you on the diving board–and the bars, we can only hope!
