PHOTOS: Male celebrities stripping down for gay mags is a thing in the UK: Olympic diver Chris Mears just did it for Gay Times, and now British X Factor winner Shayne Ward has gotten his kit off for Attitude magazine’s annual naked issue, which benefits the National AIDS Trust.
How can we get this trend started in the U.S.?
MikeE
“How can we get this trend started in the U.S.?”
I’m not sure why you would want to?
What is it with seeing straight celebrities naked?
If you want to see naked men, watch some porn.
MMDD
@MikeE: Ummm…I think the writer was talking more from an equality standpoint since women prancing around naked (or practically naked and leaving nothing to the imagination) is pretty much the norm nowadays.
makino
its not equality….seems like starts in usa when their stars stop shining…they start GETTING NAKED ON MAGAZINES…..thats a stupid trend
MMDD
@makino: Well, that’s your opinion. Nobody bitches about women doing this at the drop of a hat, but let a guy show off his body and people freak out.
MikeE
@MMDD: the article say clearly “male celebrities stripping down for GAY mags”… then the write goes on to say “How can we get this trend started in the U.S.?”
I wonder why a gay man would care about seeing straight celebrities strip down for gay magazines. As I said, you want to see good looking naked guys, watch some porn.
it’s the whole “straight celebrities” getting naked for the gays thing that irks me.
CaptainFabulous
@MikeE: Thank you for speaking for all men and women everywhere, cause surely no one could ever have, nor be entitled, to an opposing opinion to yours, could they?
Chad Hunt
I’m all in for any and everyone getting naked.
MMDD
@MikeE: Ah…well, I see your point. I wish we would get excited over GAY men stripping down for GAY magazines, but I guess that would be too logical, now wouldn’t it? 😉
marc sfe
@MikeE: That’s your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. However, others have a different opinion and no one appointed you potentate to make the decision for all. Opinions are like the holes we use to defecate – everybody has one…….
MikeE
@CaptainFabulous: It’s sort of funny, because, I don’t remember telling anyone else they couldn’t have an opinion.. unlike what YOU just did.
I said I don’t understand gay men’s obsession with naked straight celebrities. Did I say “no gay men should ever like naked straight men”? I said I don’t understand it.
@marc sfe: And the same goes for you. I didn’t tell anyone else what to think, unlike, again, you.
You guys are funny. You bash someone for an opinion, accusing them of denying others their opinions… and yet, that is PRECISELY what you are doing: denying me the right to my opinion. Hypocrites much?
CaptainFabulous
@MikeE: No, the only thing even remotely funny is your pathetic attempt to backpeddle and toss up a room full of strawmen.
No one said you weren’t entitled to YOUR opinion. We only mentioned that you were not entitled to MY opinion.
Fidelio
It’s all tongue-in-cheek y’all, so don’t loose your blob. I, for one, think it’s sexy that straight men pose for, presumably, gay men (i.e., dieux stad calendar – oy!) Something about a straight man strip-teasing for a gay audience is, somewhat, titillating.
MMDD
@Fidelio: Which probably explains why the vast majority of the performers in the gay porn industry are straight. Far too many gay men want what they know they can never have.
Chad Hunt
@MMDD: Let’s get one thing straight. I worked in the porn industry for over 10 years. There is no such thing as a Gay-4-pay or Str8 guys working as models in the gay porn industry. All of these gays are some version of bisexual at the least and most of them just use the GAY-4-Pay excuse to ease out of those closets. I can’t even count how many of them I have had knock on my room door after shoots or outside of work. I have dated quite a few on the side, etc. I love it when they act like they need the str8 videos to get hard etc but for some reason it almost never works and what does work is if you get them alone with their scene partner on a 1 on 1 level where no one is watching them (and in their minds judging them) and BOING!
D P
Never knew this Shayne Ward until this article, but the guy’s got a nice Adonis’ belt going on…
Bee Gaga
@MikeE: Gurl why are you pressed? We know male celebrities and we generally have some kind of attachment to them that’s why we would want to see them naked, DUH! Of course we know we can see a nameless, faceless, platformless porn actor naked whenever we want, but we’re curious about Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling or Drake or LL Cool J etc.
MMDD
@Chad Hunt: Well, Chad, assuming what you say is even somewhat true, that doesn’t change the fact that while on screen and in interviews, these guys make it abundantly clear that having sex with a man: a) does nothing for them, b) repulses them, or c) is only something they’re doing because they’re getting paid handsomely for it. This is the image that viewers (the majority of whom are gay men) get to see over and over again, and this is the message that these same gay men get to hear over and over: that a man having sex with another man is unappealing, disgusting, and something for which you must get paid extra to do since sex with women is soooooo much better. That alone makes the entire thing off-putting.
CaptainFabulous
@MMDD: You and I must clearly be watching different kind of “gay for pay” porn. While there are a small few who act in this manner the vast majority are clearly enjoying themselves despite trying to convince us they are straight.
And again, you must be hearing things the rest of us are missing. Like tiny tiny violins maybe. But to each their own, if you don’t like it don’t watch it.
MMDD
@CaptainFabulous: I don’t watch it specifically for the reasons I explained. And you must be the one hearing tiny violins since anyone who would say that supposed straight guys having sex with men are “clearly enjoying themselves” obviously isn’t fully in touch with reality. Or perhaps you just need new glasses?
CaptainFabulous
@MMDD: Like I said, you’re obviously watching the wrong porn. I can only think of maybe 2 “gay for pay” actors doing gay porn who clearly aren’t all that into it. The rest seem to enjoy it just fine. So honestly I have no idea where you’re even coming up with this shit. I dunno, maybe you just like 85% of the other Queerty posters who just like to make shit up simply to stir the pot and provoke arguments with people. And stupid me, I always seem to bite. Gonna have to work on that.
MMDD
@CaptainFabulous: Hmmm…been watching porn for well over 20 years now, so I honestly don’t know where YOU’RE coming from. But I’m not going to argue back and forth a point with someone who clearly can’t see a perspective different from his own without demeaning the other person. Have a nice day.
CaptainFabulous
I can see plenty of perspectives other than my own. But alas, not yours. Sorry. Maybe it’s time to take a hiatus after 20+ years of watching porn since it seems you’re genuinely seeing things that simply aren’t there, and then jumping to the conclusion that we’re all being taught, by gay porn, that gay porn is dirty and disgusting. Um… what?
But forget it. Yeah, no point in arguing. This horse is beaten deader than Romney’s political career.
MMDD
@CaptainFabulous: LOL! Yet you keep arguing. Go to any gay porn forum and you’ll find a lot of guys who have perspectives very similar to mine. But on second thought, don’t. Remember, I’m the one whose hearing violins, right?
MMDD
…who’s hearing violins, I meant.
Chad Hunt
@MMDD: … it may be off-putting to you but it is exactly what is on-putting to others. The idea of the unattainable is intrinsically intriguing. The more they spout their str8 rhetoric the hotter to some they become. Remember, Porn is about selling fantasy. Even in interviews etc porn actors are in character selling themselves to a niche group. We all know, we are not everyone’s cup of tea so we try to appeal to as large a fantasy group as possible. You have no idea how many Tops in movies are real life Bottoms and how many movie Bottoms in their personal lives are Tops. WE create characters and personalities all for selling that next scene.
MMDD
@Chad Hunt: I totally get the unattainable straight guy fantasy thing; it’s the unattainable straight guy who disses the sex acts he’s performing with other guys that’s the rub. I can’t see any self-respecting gay man finding that to be a turn-on or intriguing in any way, but I’m sure it likely is appealing to self-loathing ones. This is more a reflection on the viewers than it is on the industry itself, although one feeds the other, of course.
