"A student-produced newspaper at the Academy for Arts, Science & Technology [in Myrtle Beach] was banned from being distributed last month after students failed to clear an editorial advocating same-sex marriage with the school administration. The principal of the academy near Carolina Forest, Ronnie Burgess, said that he was concerned that the editorial, which was printed on the front page with a picture of two male students holding hands, would be disruptive to the school. 'I had some concerns about the content of the article and how it might impact students here and what the community concerns might be when the article was distributed,' Burgess said. 'At the academy we encourage diversity, we don't look to silence student voices, we hope to facilitate their expression.'" [Myrtle Beach Sun News]

I love the asshole's throw-in line at the end, which completely contradicts the realities of his actions. But hey, he's got his script down!
His idiotic actions are certainly more disruptive than allowing the editorial to print. I trust that all will see how stupid this is, and that he will feel the pressure of his arrogance.
how about including your source and somelinks so we can further track the story and look for and support student reaction.
when will these "banners" ever learn? slap a gag on it makes it news…
Another polite bigot. What this really says to me is that the next generation is possibly the one we've been waiting for. They don't seem to give a shit about gay/straight and don't seem to be buying the argument that marriage is so special to heterosexuals that they deserve to keep it to themselves.
