Police Nab Suspect 9 Months After Univ. of Miami’s Benjamin Collings Got Bashed

Benjamin Collings, the University of Miami (in Ohio) student (pictured), who was beat up outside a bar after attending a drag show with his boyfriend (after speaking up when he heard some guys talking shit about “fags” in the bathroom) back in April, might finally see a smidge of justice: A one Grant Rose, of Kentucky, has been arrested for the assault. But no, there is not a hate crime attachment.

Miami University is in Oxford Ohio… Which is about an hours’ drive from Cincinnati, Ohio.

One a night while hanging out with boyfriend and friends a young man overheard homophobic rhetoric coming from another gentleman in the restroom of a local bar. When Benjamin Collings a student of Miami of Ohio, advocated against homophobic speech, he was assaulted. The alleged Grant Rose of Alexandria, Ky has been charged with the assault.

The assault, which took place nine months ago, is not being tried as a hate crime as it relates to the Matthew Sheppard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Public Law No. 111-

FYI and for the record- Lexington, KY has its 1st openly gay mayor and the city of Louisville in KY is the most gayfriendly place within a 50 mile radias

… so be careful of the implication that by virtue of some idiot from Ky hurting someone that it reflects on the entire state, and especially the cities within them!!

This headline is misleading. This young man was bashed at MIAMI UNIVERSITY, which is in Oxford, Ohio.

As another poster pointed out, the UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI is in Coral Gables, FL.

@hotone2me: To clarify: Miami University is a public university, a 50 mile radius really doesn’t include much in Kentucky, and this happened during Spectrum’s (Miami’s GLBTQA student organization) Charity Drag Show in and outside one of Oxford’s conventionally straight bars – which also happened to be directly across the street from the police station.
